I noticed they had a 4 inch f6ish coated achromat (in a cell) for about $170. Forty percent off of that is a pretty nice deal.

(Haven't made a tube for it yet)

did you test is against a flat?

with the %44 of 25 a $14 3" flat that's suppose to be 1/10 isn't bad...

Last 80mm x 700 I got hold of was excellent. $29, all it has to do is show me anything!

It appears that much of the really good stuff is gone! I wish they would update their webpage so that when an item sells out it would be removed. They could still list it in another area so others can be notified when they come back into stock. It's just aggravating to have to wade through a bunch of stuff that you can't buy!

I am no bottom feeder, but I've notified my interest in their 90mm fl/500mm mounted objective lens for my project for two months, and yet they are still out of stock as of today. I really do not know how they get their stuff for sale, and it appears to me that there may not have enough of good, desirable surplus stuffs around for them to make profits.

What about their 80x400m achros? I have one of those, too.
Did a bench test with eyepiece for daytime use, and just fine. Likely cheaper than their 90....

Danny, if you want, buy the flat, and send it here. I'll check it for you.

SS does update their inventory online, but it's not automatic at the time of order. Schang, two months isn't very long to wait for a specific item. Remember that surplus is just that, surplus. Sometimes items show-up regularly, sometimes they don't.
Only once have I received a real dog optic from SS in many years of purchases. Fortunately it wasn't a high-dollar item. All of the surplus Asian objectives I've purchased have been very good, as are the recent Jaegers objectives. They are as good as the ones I purchased directly from Jaegers in the old days.
It may take six months or more for an item to return to stock, so don't be too disappointed if you have to wait. Those who check the website regulary or are members of the SS VIP club will always get first crack at the new stuff and the best stuff.
If you think of a surplus store as some kind of Walmart equivalent, with regular incoming stock, you will probably be disappointed.

Mark: I need two for a binoscope project. Between the 80mm and 90mm lens, I had decided to go for the 90mm for obvious reasons.

Chuck: I was told the wait could be ~ 30-60 days when I inquired about this lens. It is in brand new, never used condition, so I presume that they will order or have ordered a batch of these from Asian manufacturers to restock them. They will notify me once they have them in stock. I guess that I'll just have to wait or look elsewhere if possible.

Dang - they have a right-angle finder-scope that is out of stock...with the 44% off it would have been only about $17...

I tried to buy one of those RA finders 6 months ago, out-of-stock then.....so I hit the 'notify me' button, still waiting to hear that they are back....

This morning, being brave/hopeful, ordered a Jaegers 6" f/10 objective for $185...the order went through, so hopefully they still had some in the shop.....because otherwise I just paid $6 to get a green LED shipped.....

My Jaegers lenses have been very good. My 6" F10 is the same quality as the D&G 5" F12 I had. It is better than the SS 5" F9.4 lens, and that one is pretty good. Sure, they have some cheap junky stuff. Have to take the bad with the good. Jaegers achros are cheaper than they were in the 70s unadjusted for inflation.
