The problem occurs because the light path in the 1.25" diagonal is longer than that of a 0.965" unit. If you attempt to use eyepieces that require additional in focus, you can quickly run out of focuser travel. The most in focus a 1.25" eyepiece would require is about 3/4". Add another 3/4" for the extra diagonal path. If you have about 1.5" spare focuser IN travel then you should be fairly safe with most 1.25" eyepieces. The extra optical path also allows for closer near focus for terrestial viewing.

I think it would be rare that you would require any additional out travel.

Thanks Dan. Would the problem manifest itself most with short or long focal length eyepieces?

My apologies. I posted virtually the same question in the Classics forum, so I'll delete the original post here. Thanks all and sorry.
