Yet another Tasco 7te-5-help needed!
Posted 30 January 2014 - 06:51 PM
Any chance anyone out there has these available?
Maybe I should have waited for a more pristine example....but it seemed like a good deal for $100 !
Should I post a wanted ad in the refractors forum?
Any ideas/help is greatly appreciated.....I have wanted one of these for a while to add to my collection......

The lens covers are hard to find. I'd like to have one myself. Substitutes can be made from thermo plastic sheets from the hobby shop. cut a round plug out of a square of thick plywood. Get a sheet of thermo forming plastic and lay it on the board with the hole you just cut and put it in the oven in a pan lined with parchment paper. When the plastic softens and starts to sag, press the round plug you cut out back into the hole to form the cap and take the pan out of the oven to cool. Trim the flat edges off and you now have a lens cap. the plug has to be the same size as the telescope barrel or your cap wont fit well. if its too big, try some felt or tape to shim it down on the inside edge of the cap. I've meant to make one out of copper sheet in the same way but I dont have a hydraulic press.
Or, you can just do like many of our users and start trying plastic covers until you find one the right size. thats the easy way.

I did find a Rubbermade cap that fits mine to keep the dust out.
Congrats on the Tasco, worth every penny you spent.
Good luck on your hunt Bob
