The evening yesterday was clear. So I brought my 6 inch Mak outside,. When I woke up after midnight, I dressed up and observed Mars for a while. The steadiness was so lá lá, I could not magnify more than 140x. The use of a neodymium filter helped a little.
Under these circumstances I got only a mediocre sketch. But the remaining of the polar cap were clearly visible, surrounded by darker material. Olympus mons was covered by clouds. The phase of the planet was just visible in form of an unsharp edge. The image is mirror reversed. central meridian was around 180 deg.

Uwe,

An excellent observation of Mars. The cloud over Olympus Mons is well recorded. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Regards,
Carlos

Excellent observation and sketch. I like the cloud over Olympus Mons, as well as the colors you used to differentiate the NPC from the cloud. :waytogo:

Uwe,

Very nice sketch despite the less than ideal conditions.
With the disk larger than 14" it is well worth a look.

Frank :)

For 140x, Uwe, I kind of like it. I like the way you rendered Mars, looks nice. Too bad you couldn't really get up higher in magnification.
