Equipment: Celestron Nexstar 8SE (SCT) Pentax 14mm XL. Field sketch was made with pencil. Skies were mag 4.5-5 with high cirrus clouds. Mars was setting in the west. I stared at Mars for more than an hour before I could detect two markings on the west (right) and a subtle darknes on the east (left). Mars is difficult! Later digitized and final drawing completed using Sketchbook Pro

Chuck,

Very nice Mars sketch from the desert.
I have seen many of your fine Lunar sketches in the BAA Lunar Section Circular.

Frank :)

Thanks, glad that you enjoyed it. Not much detail I'm afraid. Maybe if the weather cooperates in the next few nights I'll try again.

Nice sketch. Yes mars is not so close to be easy to sketch with our small materials.
We can just put some subtile colors from place to place, you did it very well.

Hi Michel. Yes Mars is probably a bit too far for my Nexstar 8SE. Looking at photos from others using the Nexstar 8SE fooled me into thinking that I'd get more detail. A big challenge but fun. You have an interesting website! Thanks, Chuck
