The Micro Phone Lens 150x is the world's first device that makes your phone or tablet comparable to a professional or laboratory microscope!

It looks interesting.

Very cool.

As someone that runs professional research microscopes, it is not comparable. But it would be great fun in the classroom for elementary students. Certainly great for cash-strapped science programs in schools.

It's hardly the first. People have been doing this with their cell phone cameras for years. The microscope is a singlet lens usually a ball lens. The design in essence goes back to van Leeuwenhoek. You can buy a lens from Edmund Optics and make one yourself for about $25.

I did essentially the same thing with the front lens from an old, dead laser pointer. It worked fairly well, haven't figured out magnification yet and this project has slipped into limbo status. Definitely has potential.
