hi all, this might be a very stupid question. Someone handed me a meade LX10 EMC. It has RA and dec motors, but no control box.

I know it's a magellan 1, but am wondering two things:
1) do i have to get a magellan 1 box or can i buy a magellan 2,3, etc?
2) If not, anyone have a control box laying around??

It needs to be Magellan 1, I have one.
Those encoders are only 1000 tic, everything else is 2000-4000 tic.
SORRY, that is the bad news, the good news is that
Deep Space objects will still be OK. Planetary objects will not be accurate because that computer is NOT Y2K compatible.
If you look back, you can find years that have the same Month Day of the week as the current year. It is like every 6 or 8 years....something like that. That is the way I used my Compustar before I bought the Y2k upgrade.

I am not a member so I can't check but this may be of interest. Doubt they will separate but who knows? If the price is right, buy it all and sell the OTA...

The Magellan I was just a generic Tangent box, available under various brand names. Any of the popular DSC controllers (Sky Wizard, Sky Commander, Argo Navis) should work fine once set for the correct encoder resolution.

so since the control box is a magellan 1, no other control box will work. And if I want to use a different control box then i'll need new motors as well?

That's what I'm reading from Orion61's comment. Is that correct?
