Last night I checked my North alignment.  Within a degree and dead plumb.  Yaa!  The J-bolts are a perfect fit to my CGE Pro pier adapter, but the whole template drifed about 1/2" off center.  Shouldn't matter but looks a little funky.

I am planning to wrap the 12" diameter cement pier with a 1/2" Neoprene sheet to tiddy it up and make the occasional head butt or knee collision a bit less painful also a nice way to hide cables.  Anyone else take that approach?  Any pre-made products out there?

By the way, the exterior is complete except a 4'x6' deck and lift system.  When the lift is in, I will be bring the telescope and mount up for a test run.  Pictures to follow.

Wow!  Very cool!

Personally, I don't think you'll need any kind of covering on your pier to protect yourself.  I've had my 12" concrete pier for a  year now and have never bumped into it.  Bonked my head on a scope a couple of times, but that's it.

If I can find the right material, I guess it's more for esthetics... A nice flat black smooth column rather than cement.   Cable management too!

Maybe some outdoor carpet wrapped around the pier?

My 150mm scope in place for now.  The C14 will be placed once the observatory interior is completed.

Looks great! That's quite a large building as well, surely the space will feel convenient.

Clear skies,

Paint, some detail work and trim are all that is left.  Pictures to come.

Stairway to landing is done.  Ships ladder is done but not installed yet.  I am about to bid on a roll up 8x8' door.
