Now that's it's June, I can psych myself up by telling myself "It's next month!". Starts Sunday, July 27. Who's going? I know CityKid will be there.

Yep, I will be there. I'm starting to get excited as it's getting closer. I hope we get a year like we had in 2010. The transparency was out of this world. I had no problem seeing M33 naked eye every night and it was clear 5 of the 7 nights I was there and it was partially clear one of the other nights. I haven't started putting together a target list yet but I hope to pretty soon.

Go with me! I'm traveling solo- my observing buddy can't go. We're only an hour apart.

Got my PTO set up and I am trying to decide which scope to bring. I belong to a club with a nice blue zone site but I generally go on vacations to find really dark sites. I have high hopes that going to NSP will be worth it. First ever trip to one of these big star parties and I am really looking forward to the experience.

Anyone know if there are dew issues at this place? If there is, then do they have any place I can plug in the charger for my battery?

I have attended NSP three times and I haven't had any problems with dew. There is no electricity on the observing field. There is a campground with electricity but not the one where the observing field is. I think the campground with electricity is probably a couple miles away. I'm not sure because I haven't actually checked the distance. It's the same campground where the showers are located.

I've attended once (last year) and stargazed all 3 nights I was there. Other than a BRIEF shower that scared most away for Sunday night, the place was bone dry. I never needed my dew controller (12-volt hair dryer), even at early dawn at the end of Tuesday's all-nighter.

This is my only real star party experience and I was worried about what a 'big' party's atmosphere would be like. The NSP is very friendly and you can truly observe with a crowd, small groups, or completely alone. It's easy to move around and change how much interaction you have.

I'll send you the contact info when I get back. I need to get it sent in before the end of the month to take advantage of the early-bird discount.

Any issues with just showing up and registering on site at the start of the event or is it better to pre-register?

It's cheaper if you register by June 30th but other than that it's not a problem to register on site.

Maybe this is uncool, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone look forward to meeting fellow CN members at these things or is it just me? I hoped to bump into people that I've chatted with here and wrongly assumed others would like to do the same. Other than City Kid (super-nice person BTW), I didn't meet any other CNers that I knew ahead of time through our forum interactions. Maybe people want to remain anonymous? Or do we all just need a secret handshake or have to wear a red corsage???

My name is Lane on this board and it is Lane in the real world to. So if you talk to a guy named Lane driving a black Tacoma pickup that would be me. I will see you guys there.

Aside from Dave Knisely, who is pretty well known both here and at NSP... there aren't many Omaha/Lincoln club members who frequent CN (or at least, they're mostly lurkers). I haven't been up there more than a couple of times in the past several years.. although I have made motel reservations (for my wife, who hates camping) and have set aside PTO for this year. I'll have my big scope on Dob row.. come by and offer the secret hand shake. :)
