the questar I have has a plain purple dew tube. I've always read about the tubes having starcharts on them. is mine as cheap as they get or what?

Nothing cheap about it. When I ordered our new Questar I had the option to delete the star charts, because it was my preference; there was no difference in price.

notrix,

The lowest priced 3.5 Duplex is $4995. Here is the listing for Questar on the CN's Astornomics retail site. They usually discount the price about 2%.

In the beginning, all Duplex Questars were without starcharts. Later they were offered as an option with starcharts. Because of the Duplex design, the dewshield is shorter than for the original astro Questar. So when you have a Duplex with starchart, it looks a little odd with the starchart not being completely around the tube.

Questar 7's were originally all without starcharts, Only when the Titanium version was introduced, they became available with a star chart.

So in conclusion, there is nothing cheap about your plain blue dew shield and tube. It was conceived that way by design. If you like starcharts on a Questar, make sure you order an astro version of the Questar, it looks way better on that model.

I have a 1979 Duplex, and have both dew tubes. I actually prefer the plain tube.

Mystic Purple rocks!  -  In bright sunlight it has an almost 3D effect.
