I thought you Barska fans would be interested in this on ebay from a newly registered seller. A clone?

When you see stuff like that, it's not a clone. When anyone goes to the effort and expense to offer a clone, it is of a higher-priced item where the clone maker can offer what appears to be a comparable product for a much lower price. Think of the various Vixen and Takahashi mount clones.

When you see what appears to be the same economy telescope offered at a similar price, it is usually the same item with a different private label contract. Neither is a clone; they are equally valid examples of the manufacturer's product. You just don't see the manufacturer's name anywhere on it. This is very common among low-end telescope resellers.

The VisionKing ebay offerings seem to be a case of bypassing all the usual importer, distributor, and retailer and potentially mean big savings to the end user. But there will almost certainly be less support. If you receive a good scope or other item then all is fine;it is only if you receive a damaged one or have other problems that you appreciate the support of the retailer(or become upset if you do not get support).

it looks like they are testing the market price with an auction.

And there's another at $10.50 right now. It'll be interesting to watch how many are put up. And +1 to BigC's point.

I'd buy that for $10.50! But depending on the quality, $207.50 + $45 shipping wasn't bad either.

Checking the history shows they are selling in the range of $175-250 TOTAL cost;this may change. Most people would be shocked to learn the factory price of manufactured goods versus the retail store price.Shipping, storage, advertising, retail store plus salaries, taxes, utilities and insurance all must be paid for somehow. If these are,as they appear, simply differently branded but otherwise identical to the Barska 80ED the new owners should be pleased.

Based on the auction info it appears it will be September before the current buyers will have scopes in hand and might write reviews!!

It sounds like a good deal at that price. I got mine on sale at Amazon for $359.

I might have gone for this if I didn't already have a very nice C80 ED from AWB.

I love my Barska, has excellent glass. I might have to watch these things and get one if they don't get too high just to see if it is indeed the same scope with a new name.

Check the shipping charges. Others on the site are charging over $100.

Thanks for the heads up Herman, am watching a couple that are at 45 dollars. If I could pick one up for say 100 shipping and all might be worth a gamble.

Well, I just got me one. I guess I will be the official CN guinea pig for this one.

I will report back when (and if!!!) it's delivered...

So far, what I watched, sold for some $250 plus $50 shipping... too much for my taste. I mean, for one big unknown. Maybe for a total of $150, but $300?! Thanks, but no, thanks.

So, just received a full refund from PayPal as seller did not ship as promised one business day after payment.

I immediately created a new case and PayPal came through as expected. I knew there was minimal risk involved and that's why I tried it, but in the end it is of course nothing but a scam..

There are people still bidding on those scopes having sellers with no feedback and what I believe are "grabs" of the original visionking168 listings.Hope everyone gets refunded.

I reported them to Ebay as having what appeared to be ghost bidders. Would have need nice to get one to check out, just didn't work out.
