This just arrived today and the new scope spell is on it's job as the clouds rolled in and looks like it will be that way for the next 5 days or so. Anyway, here are a few pics of the new scope. It looks better than the pictures show!

Does this scope have an FPL-53 lens element? Looks super sharp, hope you get to observe with it soon.

It has the FPL51 glass but the images are color free on all but the brightest stars and VERY little color on the limb of the moon. Gerry

Congratulations on the new scope! You're going to love the images. I have the Aluminum tube "Essentials" version. I bought it a couple of months ago when they were on sale for $999.99. I'm a double star person and I marvel at how beautiful the doubles look through this scope. Gerry

@ gfeulner

Can you test the weight of yours for me. I am interested in the weight of the OTA only with no finder, lens cover or diag. Just the bare OTA with mounting rings.

So you're the reason it's been raining all day! ;)

Congrats on the new scope. Look forward to reading your first light report.

Sure looks good. Hope it performs as good as it looks. That case looks strong built. How far over the front element does that dew shield extend? That would look good next to my AR152!!! Thanks

Glen- I weighed the scope and rings without cap, finder and diagonal. It weighs 11lbs and 1 oz according to my Detecto physicians scale. Keep in mind that mine has an aluminum tube. Gerry

The CF102 bare with mounting rings is exactly 9lbs. Without the rings and dovetail and no lens cap, the bare OTA is 7.13lbs.

Can you see what yours is without the rings and dovetail and no lens cover?

@ B. COOK

The dew shield is 4 inches past the front of the lens when extended.
