How does the SE 10 x 42 compared to the Zeiss Conquest HD 10 x 42??
Also, are the replacement eyecups (Nikon part 7636) still available through Nikon?

I might be wrong, but I think you have to send in the SE into Nikon to be "fixed" and they will replace the eyecups, or send you a Monarch 5 or 7 as replacement if no eyecups.

Mooreorless,
No, I owned the SE 10 x 42 when I special ordered them from Eagle Optics back in June 2010, but I regrettably sold them
like a fool and have missed them since. Right after I purchased, I wanted to get an extra pair of eyecups and
store them if ever the original eyecups wore out. I called
Nikon parts and they sent me out a pair at no charge.

I am not sure if that is their practice now, 4 years later.

I tried looked on BF for the posts about the SE eyecups, but could not find it. I know that other people on there did the same as you, bought extra.

I managed to buy both the 8x32SE and the 10x42SE in the past year. They were used mint condition.I kept the 10x42 and sold the 8x32(wish I kept it).I got mine for less than $600 and am very happy with it.I even managed to find the tripod adapter for it although it seemed harder to find than the bins.

B&H and Adorama has the tripod adapter for the SE line. Not cheap.

Definitely not cheap.I paid $100 for a used one.
Try calling B&H or Adorama to see if they actually have it in stock.I had no luck with any vendor or Nikon for that matter.

That doesn't guarantee that they are in stock.

I also went through the process of putting the adapter into a shopping cart but didn't go all the way with it out of fear of being put on a waiting list.So I phoned the vendors to see if they were actually in stock and they were backordered .I was told I could order them but the vendor had no idea when or if they would be available. This is why I went the used route. That $59.95 for a new one would end up being over $100 after shipping, taxes, currency conversion and any handling or duty fees.

The used one for $35 is no longer listed, so I think they might of had that one.  I wonder if someone on here bought it? I have one and also the Binocu-u-Mount and the site still says "in stock" for the new one. So go figure.

Yes, that would be me. And it's already being put to good use...

It had become difficult sharing the one adapter I had with two of my favorite binoculars. Now each has it's own and we're all one big happy family again. :flowerred:

I'm glad I could help a little. If I didn't already have one of these I would of bought it.

Well it's a good thing that I have a taste for crow :smirk: .

That used adapter looks as good as new :waytogo:

Yeah, pretty much. It's obvious that it has been used, but likely only used once. It certainly looks newer than the 70 something year-old binocular that it's now attached to...

Hi,
I have been gone from Cloudy Nights for several years now
as I regain my interest in binoculars.Like a fool, I sold my
MINT SE 10 x 42's several years ago and greatly regret that.

I know they are discontinued, but does anyone here know of
any on line or store retailer who may still have a brand new
pair available??
If not, is anyone selling a MINT pair??

Thanks!

Not sure that this one would qualify as mint, but the seller calls it "excellent with clean glass"... http://www.ebay.com/itm/251617809921

Try sending Steve an email.

He says he can get them on special order but the UK price is very expensive.

www.swoptics.co.uk

Just hit the "email us" banner and ask him.

I asked about the 12x50SE a few weeks ago and he said he could.

I sure don't know how "premium" these will be, but Burgess Optical is coming out with 8x42s and 10x42s per their web site burgessoptical.com. Burgess says he is now part-owner of 5 Chinese optical companies and can therefore manufacture to precise specifications (at least that is the implication). I have a pair of Burgess' 25x100s from a decade ago, and they are decent performers.
