Hi recently I acquired a Vixen VSD100 f/3.8. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any rings to go along with it. Does anyone know of a set of rings that will work with this scope? Many thanks!

What is the tube diameter? Vixen make 115 and 125mm rings - I just got a set of 115's for my Tak FC-100 (has a 114mm tube, but shim felt works wonders).

Knowing Vixen, the tube is LIKELY 115mm. The set I got in cost me $95 Aus, which is about $90 US. May be able to find them cheaper in Singapore-la :) I know Willam Ng in HK sells them at a GOOD price.

On the website, it says the following - are SX Tube rings the normal Vixen 115mm rings? That's what confused me as to what I can use. Thanks!

Optical tube diameter

115mm(*SX tube ring 115mm is not compatibel)

Odd.

The box mine arrived in today says "SX tube rings 115mm", and apart from the style of clamping knob, are no different to the 115mm tube rings that have been on my Vixen FL02S for 20+ years.

I fail to see how if the tube OD is 115mm how they CANNOT work. Perhaps not work with the standard Vixen proprietary dovetail/locking bar, but maybe with a generic "slab" Skywatcher or universal Vixen dovetail bar like their new type.

Also, look up what the Pentax SDUF used - the new Vixen VSD is the EXACT same scope with new optics (Pentax sold Vixen the patent rights).

Sure the tube is short, but any 115mm rings should work provided you have appropriate dovetail spacing.

I think you can use Takahashi clam ring for TSA-102S.  I am using the ring for Pentax 100 SDUF II.

Using a piece of typewriter paper (printer paper, sorry), stretch it around the OTA and insert the surplus under the straight cut edge.  Carefully mark the boundary where it over laps.

Stretch it out flat, measure the * marked length* with an accurate ruler, then divide by pi to three or four decimal places to get the accurate diameter (hence your ring diameter).

Then look around.  Parallax is a frequent stopping point for rings.
