I tried to visit TEC's webpage (http://www.telescopengineering.com/) and am getting the following error report:

"Server Error, 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."

Strange, in the past I never had access problems on TEC's webpage. Contacting them by e-mail to inform about the server problem was not possible, since the e-mail was automatically bounced back. Looks to me like a server problem.

All other international internet and website access is fully working (I am located in Switzerland).

Anyone else who encounters access problems on TEC's website?

Stephan

Ok, thanks Bob S. and SteveC.

It looks now like a server problem. I will contact my internet provider for a remedy.

While we're on the subject, I noticed recently that OPT no longer advertises TEC products. Doesn't seem anyone else does either. What's up with that? Does TEC sell only directly now?

Interesting.

Maybe Yuri is considering retiring?

Anything on the TEC Yahoo! group?

Yuri said back in July that no more orders would be taken from them. Nothing more.

I am in Australia and have the same problem.

I get HTTP 403 trying to access their website from my local ISP.  However, when I try from work (i.e. different provider), it works no problem.

However, I've emailed TEC twice now in the last week about a TEC-140, but with no reply.  So I'm getting the message.

No problem using your link at 3PM. It was probably a short server outage.

Are others also having trouble ordering or otherwise contacting Yuri also? I'm hoping to order a TEC 140 soon, so I hope not...

Problem still not resolved, no website access from Switzerland and original e-mails are automatically bounced back unanswered after some delay.

My internet provider checks now the server situation, maybe a "black list" server problem.

I've had no problem accessing their website from Canada.

For some time, though, the TEC website has given only its web site as the place to order TEC scopes from North and South America.

So, I'm not surprised to see that OPT no longer lists TEC products.  May as well cut out the middle man. If you want a TEC, talk to TEC.

It appears the issue is being discussed on the TEC Yahoo site also.  Someone from India can't access TEC's website. It appears that a "proxy" service is required in some instances. I'm not about to list the "proxy" sites provided because I know very little about what they do, but check out the TEC Yahoo group if you're interested.

Yes, I think direct only now.  A few years back when I was purchasing from TEC I got the impression that TEC preferred the customer deal directly with them - unless the customer absolutely needed to pay by credit card.  At that point they would refer you to either Anacortes or OPT.

Still no access to TEC's website. The tech support of our local internet provider (UPC-Cablecom) checked the problem. They tried not only their own provider connections, but made also several attempts to visit the TEC website through several other providers. All attempts failed.

According the tech support, the only explication for this is that TEC's website must have been access blocked for visitors located in Switzerland, perhaps entire Europe. Reason unknown, since no explication is given here in this thread by Yuri or another TEC staff member.

Stephan,

Have you considered joining TEC's Yahoo group and posting there concerning your access issues? Yuri actively participates in that forum. I've never witnessed Yuri posting on Cloudy Nights.

I can visit TEC's website from NL. But I can't contact Yuri by E-mail.

His replies are always quick, but in this time I don't get for one week.

Ok, someone did a good job: Also for us Swiss customers, access to TEC's website is regained since two days. All is working fine now like before. Thanks!

The TEC website has never stopped working for me.  However, Yuri himself seems to be on vacation or to have disappeared from the face of the Earth.  I'm inclined to believe the former, but I'm a bit worried about my TEC 140 that's on-order and that I would expect to be ready within the next month or so.

There are several opticians working at TEC. Yuri does not do all the work himself.

But he's the only one who answers email (or not).
