Regarding the AYO mount, I was irritated when I tried to buy just the mount-head from WO. Seems it is only for sale with their tripod which I do not need. Mr. Kohler told me his agreement with WO was that they sell the mount head alone, for those wanting to purchase it this way, but it appears his agreement is not presently being complied with.
If I may venture a guess, it is that WO may very well offer the mount head for sale - in future. As I mentioned, this is not presently the case. As I understand things are just getting started in this partnership between AYO and WO, I hope the sale of the AYO head may later be offered. WO seemed to indicate in the referenced thread that it WILL offer the mount head separately, not that they are doing so at present -- maybe the next batch will allow this option. But my letters to William did not bring a favorable response to buying the AYO head alone - at least at this time. The correspondence was courteous, as always -- I DO like WO -- maybe they are having too much success in other areas to give my special request present consideration.
I may have caught them with the need to make a policy decision on what price to charge for just the head, a decision which may be impacted by the fact that the head-tripod combo is now at a temporary "introductory price" of $500. I could understand this. A reason for everything, and there could be other reasons, as well.

Quote:Tom T,I've been thinking of a APO/ED OTA/Alt Az mount package I can keep mounted and take out in one trip. I would like something ~105-120mm. Like to keep the OTA cost under $2500. Is that possilbe? How big can I go? Anything suitable in the WO line?Erik D

Quote:Second - I forgot my second point - aahhh well.Oh yes, Raul told me that he tested my two-clamp mount on two evenings and says he thinks he found a way to achieve one of my goals which is to not only mount two scopes at the same time, but to have them collimated so as to be used by two people at the same time! I want to teach my sons (and others!) astronomy and this could be a wonderful tool, if it works. Raul spoke about some kind of set-screw mod he did for me which allows collimation.
