Assuming what he says about these scope is true (an excellent assumption), then why not skip the shorties and go straight to the 6" f/8 offered by e.g. Astrozap, Meade, ...?

The f/8 would be longer and less portable? I'd be interested to know how the color correction/sharpness of the AstroTelescopes 6" f/5.9 holds up against an Astrozap/Meade 6" f/8. Especially since the 6" f/5.9 outperforms the f/6.5.BTW, the 6" f/5.9 is made by Kunming United. The 6" f/6.5 (and f/8) are made by Jinghua.(P.s., it's excellent to see Ed Ting reviewing again! )

I also enjoyed reading his reviews, he became somewhat less active on the net following his review of Chromacor, That review did not sit well with some folks and he found himself on the defensive, either to re-write a more positive review or else.
But I am glad that he is back.
