George You know you're getting on when the equipment you farmed with is showing up as suburban lawn ornaments.
Quote:One thing you'll learn about the old Meade is that any help with parts or repair aids were pretty much unobtainium. Made little difference if your were a tier one dealer or an owner of a classic. The answer was generally send it back. Then it bacame; if it's out of production, forget about it. I think I have one of these things. PM me if interested.
Quote:Chris, it sounds like you have some close contacts with Meade. If so and it ever comes up(hopefully any new manager at Meade will read this ETX forum, like a good Meade manager should,as this site ranks towards the top of the search list when inquiring about Meade products! ) please suggest that if they don't plan on producing/stocking older plastic part they at least put a link to the 2d/3d part dimensions they have from when the part was produced. Being in manufacturing I recently had 3 plastic parts (a little smaller, but more detail than the part I need from Meade) made from 3d CAD drawings and were printed on the new generation of 3d printers. Each part was about $30 and can be made from many plastic materials as strong as any Meade plastic part! The quality was unbelievable and the price of 3d printing is constantly going down. Meade customers could simply download the 3d file and have it printed if they do not want to deal with there older products.
Quote:I'm hoping to have my scope for years, I can wait, as long as my eyes hold out! That reminds me, have you ever used the 'binocular' lens I've read about on this site? I'm 48 and have borderline glaucoma (runs in the family)and have no glasses now(but I think I will the next time I see an eye doctor) . Do binoculars telescope lens help people with glasses? Do you need to use different lenses base on you vision or if you wear glasses?
