As far as PE varying with different pointing positions, if I understand the theory correctly, the PE should not vary, since the error is in the motors/encoder and not dependent on position.
But like many other things .... I could be dead wrong...
Quote:Marco,Thanks. I misspoke by not including the worm screw, which obviously is the basis for PE. However, I fail to understand how a scope position, say pointing Southeast at 30° declination will produce a different PE than pointing the scope to the Southwest at 15° declination. If that is the case, one would have to have a different PEC for every scope pointing direction (infinite number).Since the worm gear cycle will be the same over a given period of time, irrespective of where the OTA is pointing, one does not have to do a PEC for every possible pointing direction. But as I said earlier, I could be dead wrong.Jim

Quote:I've Had my scope since 2004 and never did a PEC. Wouldnt even know where to start. Is it really necessary? I'm trying to get into astrophotography, at this point i'm having trouble with the focus even with a B-Mask. I think its the DSLR.
