Quote:How do you find the 2 speed focuser? Would a single speed focuser be enough; how much do you tweak focus after using the coarse focuser? Trying to get a feeling for comparing to a skywatcher/orion 150mm mak instead which I believe only has a single speed focuser.
Quote:I love Maksutovs. Is that a 2-speed focuser? Humm, maybe time to get a new one.....

Quote:First, although photos can be deceiving, from the look of your picture, the CO looks a lot closer to 31% than to 38%.

Quote:Hi Bob, glad you could share your experience on this thread. With regard to finderscope, I like the RACI as you can tilt the finder wherever you sit. But some like straight throughs and I too seem to get used to them.Your Moonlite must be a joy to use. Yet to try out the built in focuser as I am waiting to find out how much focus travel is available. I hope I don't have issues with some 1.25" eyepieces.

Mav, I fell in love with the Mak design upon ripping mine a new, uh hum...checking it out. I think you will too. I still don't know why or what makes them such good scopes. I suspect it's the combination of very smooth spherical optics and pretty good correction.I'd be curious to know how they stack up against the C6. I have no idea if there will even be a difference or not. The C6 has a corrector that corrects for higher order SA, it's something the Mak cannot eliminate. Fortunately, the residual effect is small. Both are 6" scopes with reasonably similar COs and focal ratios and probably similar Strehl. In any case, my Mak experience has been a stunning one that revived my own love for observing, especially planets, doubles, and lunar. And not bad on DSO, either, despite the FOV. Below is a sketch made in good seeing.I hope you enjoy your Mak, wish they made more of them. My next scope will be a Mak, hopefully a good 8".
