Quote:Guys,Thanks for the information and suggestions. The TEC is scheduled for delivery next Tuesday , so I'll know for sure then.
I lost count of my scopes. Now I just want mobility. I came, I saw, I bought some interesting accessories, and put names to faces: NEAF 2012, ASAE 2012, SWAP 2013, ASAE 2013.
Quote:Hi PJAre u getting it new from a dealer? Just curious as i have an order with anTEC and the run is yet to beginCheers

Quote:the TEC is looking great riding equatorial, ready for some serious planetary views. if you don't have a case for the scope, check out the one from TEC, it's really nice. I would think both the Showa and Pentax could be seeing new homes! those are nice scopes. Nice Newt too, you have no need for a larger refractor with that scope, and the TEC is the perfect complement to it.
Quote:What's your opinion of the focuser? I don't think it's as smooth as a F/T, but it serves the purpose and perhaps may be lighter than a comparable F/T. Lightness, as apposed to smoothness, is what I would have chosen anyway.
Quote:re: retracting the dewshield, that's strange, mine slides closed with the clamshell attached. What kind of diagonals are you guys using? With an AP Maxbright and the usual ep's my clamshell is far enough back.
*edit - duh, the dewshield goes back because my dovetail bar is shorter - I'm using the ADM 4-inch. It works great.
I like the idea of using a tube ring to lock the dewshield open for solar filters & viewing. Great idea! I picked up a couple used rings for the 110 for use on another mount.
It's interesting, I don't see much difference in the feel of the TEC focuser - TEC is using an R&P focuser, will always feel a little different from a friction-focuser like the small FT's. I do miss the locking knob on my AP and FT focusers, but it hasn't proven to be much of a problem.
Quote:*edit - I see you've got FT's on both the smaller refractors, very nice! Will be difficult to let the Showa go, they don't make those anymore! I had a nice Vixen FL102 with FT focuser, beautiful scope, but I had to say goodbye, the TEC110 is ruthless to other small refractors, as you'll discover......
Quote:Do you have the small raiser block between your clamshell ring and the dovetail? With it, the dewshield can be fully retracted. It's about 20 bucks from TEC but I am sure you can machine one yourself.
