“I am the only person to ever ace a 1951 USAF resolution test. My 'to observe' list says 'done'. I do not use charts or atlases when I starhop; men do not use maps. One of my sketches won an SBIG deep sky imaging contest. I am the life of star parties I have never attended. I never say anything looks like a faint fuzzy - not even a faint fuzzy. Quote:A C8 or C6 on an alt/az mount could possibly work. Here's my travel setup. 10-12 lbs for the C6/C8, 12 lbs for the Vixen HAL130 tripod, and 18-20 lbs for the alt/az mount (T-Rex in my case).
The C6/C8 and T-rex fit in smallish duffle bags. The tripod collapses compactly. You don't need to carry a battery with this setup. The mount has an object locator with an internal 9 volt battery. Otherwise, it's a manually driven scope. You would need a few other things like eyepieces, Telrad, diagonal, etc.

Quote:wow, that's a pricey mount in my book.Nice looking though.
Quote:I'm considering the CPC Deluxe 800 HD and was curious to know what your experiences have been like, specifically with regard to portability as I would like to potentially take this one around the city via mass transit. Regards to all.
I lost count of my scopes. Now I just want mobility. I came, I saw, I bought some interesting accessories, and put names to faces: NEAF 2012, ASAE 2012, SWAP 2013, ASAE 2013.
