The difference between astronomy and astrology is that astronomy is big in frolics.

My first scope was a Tasco 60mm. It was perched upon a wobbly wooden tripod and had one of the finest molded pot-metal alt/az mounts available on a $25 telescope at the time. It came with a state-of-the-art zoom eyepiece that went from 15X to 60X in four steps utilizing a notched draw-tube.
I spent many enjoyable hours looking at the moon, Jupiter and its moons, Saturn, and the phases of Venus with this scope. It helped me get to know the ecliptic and become familiar with the constellations. It is the scope that really got me started in the hobby.
When I talk to people about telescopes I always recommend against the department store scopes but I always add a disclaimer, "unless that's all you have - in that case use it and learn everything you can from it until you can get something else."
Thanks for the question. Brought back good memories.
ETX 90RA '66 Questar 3.5 Quartz Standard Orion XT10 ... and the Astroscan
When I bought my first Questar 3.5 (I am now on my second), I had a Televue 101 and a Televue Pronto. The Questar and Pronto seemed to be pretty close to what they offered both astronomically and terrestrially. I used the Pronto on a telepod and the Questar on a photo tripod. I now have a WO 72 and a ETX90 along with my second Questar. I have not done a lot of comparisons but the three are pretty close performancewise in my views of the moon and terrestrial use which is what I wanted them for. The ETX90 focuses pretty close as, of course, does the Questar which is important to me for terrestrial use.
If you are not sure, I would suggest you find a ETX90 OTA as I have and see how you like it. If it gives you the views you want then you can think about adding a Questar. I do love my Questar and wanted one for 3o+ years before I got mine.
