Quote:I know there is chatter about AP rolling out a replacement for the 900, but I didn't realize they were gone already. I was just at the AP web site and the 900 is no longer listed; only the Mach 1, 1600, and 3600. Was there an official announcement or something recently? Thanks!Clear Skies,Brian

Quote:I guess that means I'll be getting a call pretty soon. I put my name on the 900 list a few months ago. Alice called and said "We have them in stock now". I told her I would wait for the next run knowing that the 1100 would replace it.

I agree with that. I don't think there's enough of a reason to upgrade if you already own an AP900 - maybe if you really really want some encoders but then the price is going to sky rocket!

Quote:Zero DEC backlash is good... but having to pay $3500 for an encoder on that axis, just for that? I might seem somewhat hypocritical questioning the value of encoders here when I'm (also) working on my own encoder project. But my view is, it's a matter of value. Paying $1000 for improved capability in some way is OK I think. But paying $2000 or $3000 or $4000...

Quote: Quote:Zero DEC backlash is good... but having to pay $3500 for an encoder on that axis, just for that? Backlash will still be there. Absolute encoder can NOT remove backlash. Everyone who owns a Meade mount should know what I am talking about.
Quote:I guess the AP1100 crowd doesn't care about an extra $7K here and there (and I don't mean that in a disparaging way... it is just what it is).
