Eclipse animation!
      #1461350 - 03/04/07 01:49 PM

By the time you read this post, you are probably bored to tears with lunar eclipse stuff. Hopefully this is a little more interesting.
I am so proud of this video you wouldn't believe it. Even if I do say so myself, this is pretty good stuff.
Anyway... this is 77 images combined into a video approximately 10 seconds long. You get some odd effects from the haze that developed later because of the 256 colours.
My aim for this video was to get a smooth transition between full moon and totality. I haven't seen a video which has accomplished this and thought it would be a bit of a challenge. I decided that having the camera on Av mode and ISO 100 would be a good idea - Av mode to automatically control the brightness and ISO 100 for a large dynamic range.

Techi stuff:
This was 77 images combined into a 10 second video. They were all shot with a 300D through my 8" skywatcher 'dob' on EQ6. I used DSLR focus for automated capturing, although tracking was abysmal so I had to keep correcting the position every few shots Anyway, it kept me entertained from 2130 to 0130 so I hope you like.

Here is the link. Be warned - it is 7MB! The URL might be changing in the next few days too.

I have photos to come - I am going to process the best frames from this video! One last thing - this is 25% of the original.

Hope you like I know I do (sorry for sounding arrogant, but I am really happy with this animation ).

Peter, that was amazing!!! Thanks for sharing!

PS: Interesting way to describe your scope. You call it a "dob" on an EQ6. How do you put a Dobsonian mount on an GEM?

Thanks Peter and Zach!
Peter - I am really pleased you liked it I describe my scope as such because it was initially a dob. Instead of putting it on the dob mount I now have it on the EQ6 - it just seems as a better way of describing it

Pictures are on their way...
