Mortar mix....Approximately 2 shovels of portland cement, 1/2 shovel of lime and 16 shovels of screen sand. Some people vary the mix to their own preferences tho. The lime makes it sticky and workable...so it stays on the trowel until you butter the head joints on the blocks. Mike

Nothing wrong with my list.. It's correct. You can go with or without the aggregate, depending on the mix you need. Of course Sand is an aggregate also, but sand is almost a requirement, or it's not concrete... 
You can also add additives (Quick dry powers, color, etc...).
But the basic 4 ingredients are as stated...

Well, I for one think this forum is a much more valuable source of information for anyone looking for guidance now that we now fully understand the difference between cement and concrete.
