I spent a lot of time on this one. There were so many tiny stars in the background that it made it hard to keep my place while sketching. It was lots of fun anyway!

Great sketch Jason. I was looking at this one and the M44 you have in the sketching contest and i was wondering if you could share the technique you use in making the diffraction spikes? thanks

Thank you Neoweb and Sal!
Sal,
I use an old MGI Photosuite III program for post processing. When I add color to the stars, I just use a draw tool, set at 1 pixel, and draw in the spikes. I draw a single line and darken the color as I move away from the center of the star. I repeat the process for each spike. I hope this helps!

Thanks Jason. The spikes make the sketch looks so much better in my opinion. Again Great sketches.

Thanks Frank!
I love the very detailed open clusters. One of these nights I'm going to tackle the Double Cluster. That ought to prove challenging.

Thank you, everyone!
It's good to be back at my "night job" again. I'm going to try to get out to one of our club's dark site's tonight, so maybe I'll have some new sketches to post tomorrow.

Jason,
A beautiful and accurate observation of M47in Puppis! You have rendered the star field perfectly. The diffraction spikes are nice as well. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Hi Jason,
I finally got the time to post. I have enjoyed all of your new sketches. They are very nicely rendered. You have developped your own 'label'. Well done. I believe it is time for a tutorial on the 'Jason sketch technique'. Please pardon me for not repeating myself in your other posts. You're doing great, and don't you dare to leave us for such a long time again, buddy.
