Hi,
Sky finally cleared for this observation. I guess Mars is a bit bigger in apparent size as details looked good.
Hellas was very bright and appeared to have a bright preceding border against Mare Hadriaticum.
The NPH had a distinctly blue border. The folowing edge of Syrtis Major was more distinct than the preceding edge.
As in my previous observation, lighter boundaries between dark albedo features appear "stained" and of lower contrast. I remember these boundaries to be more defined in during the last apparition.
Drawing was made with a 2H pencil with lots of blending with my fingers.
Equipment details are imbedded in the sketch.

great Mars sketch, Hellas is still bright,do you think that there is still some dust in mars's atmosphere?,Again excellant sketch, have you tried to use color in your martian sketches?, others have used colors to great effect in their sketches and mars seems to benefit from a more colored approach, i think with your talent a color mars would be awesome, great sketch again.

Awesome drawing of Mars.  The details you captured here are quite remarkable. It's one thing to see them and a totally different one to capture them. Excellent work.

T- One reason I don't draw in color is that I always use filters. So I never see planets in 'natural' color. As far as dust goes, this time I didn't see limb haze. SPH, NPH and Hellas appeared white. NPH southern edge appeared blue.
Carlos- I can't thank you enough for labeling many of the recent Mars sketches. It helps a lot. More often than not sketches and maps don't compare that well when trying to identify features.

Hi,
here's mars from this morning. I got up early at 6am, watched Mars, M42, Saturn (first time this season), a huge venus ( in comparison to mars  ), mars again. and to finish it off, a very nice sunrise.  a nice change to the foggy weather we've had here lately.
seeing was good, but not super. i should start to mount the reflector tube onto the tracking mount with mars getting bigger and revealing more now, pushing the dob is getting annoying.
there was a litlle limb haze visible (not quite as thick as on the sketch) especially present with the blue filter with which also the southern pole region (?) appeared bright with a very bright part which is shown upper right on the sketch.
the north polar hood had another shape too and i didn't see any blue color this time.
i searched for the two 'spikes' (real name?  ) on the northern side of mare cimmerium (see sol's sketch) but couldn't detect it, i've never seen them actually

Nice observations Kris and Sol.
Here is my contribution. Seeing wasn't great, 5/10 Pickering, so there are not many details visible. I was surprised how bright is Eridania. It was placed near limb and it was still enshrouded by the limb haze. I was thinking - No! It is not possible to see Hellas on the same place and same time one week later. Later, Mars Previewer showed that bright spot is Eridania and that I wan't not crazy.

Skies cleared and I took out the 3" TMB/BO Planet Hunter refractor to observe Mars. Image held up well at 216x.
NPH was prominent and showed as blue to white from south to north.
Limb brightening also apparent.
Major albedo features were Mare Cimmerium and Mare Sirenium.
Sketch was done with a 2H pencil and blending done with fingers.
I also had one bowl of my wife's incredible ginger carrot soup to prepare for observing.
Equipment detials are imbedded in the sketch.

Sol, it's an achievement to see any detail on mars now with a scope of that size! your sketch is very subtle rendered which is difficult to do, i sometimes look at a sketch I made and think: the dark areas or other details are darker on paper than I saw them in the scope, but it's the only way i can show it on the sketch i'm still struggling a bit with that. so very nice and realistic sketch
here are my impressions of the views i got saturday morning 2 hours apart. i didn't use the orange filter this time because it didn't improve the view, possably because the side of mars i observed in some ways lacks a dark regions which stand out better with the filter?
I used the tracking mount for my 8" tube first time for mars this year and i can only say i was stupid not too have used it before  how relaxed it is to just sit and view at 400x or more instead of pushing the dob all the time!
and
i saw only a very little limb brightening and the north polar hood showed no bluish color to me this time.

Your Mars sketches continue to impress me. What I have seen of Mars this year has been disappointing so far. A little better seeing and I should be able to join in. Great observations by both of you.
