C'mon fellow sketchers, enter your sketches!!!
      #1922258 - 10/19/07 03:22 PM

I have noticed lately that there have been very few fellow sketchers entering the monthly contests. There is a lot of talent out there, and everyone, regardless of your experience is welcomed to submit thier entries. What's the worse that can happen...you won't win?

So what, it is fun to enter and it does give the sketchers some much needed representation in these contests. So come on, new, intermediate or advanced...it doesn't matter...give it a try and submit a sketch and see how it stacks up, you may just be surprised!

I got to come up to speed with the transfer of my sketches and our workhorse scanner. Most of mine are in a spiral bound sketch pad that will produce those hanging chad thingies...perhaps I should switch to another type of sketch pad.

Clear skies, maybe...Stacy

Submissions for the November Sketching contest is now open. With the many sketchers here and all the great sketches that are posted throughout the month, it would be great to see more than a couple fellow sketchers enter thier drawings.

I meant to enter the October contest, and I actually did two M31 sketches in October. But I was busy, and didn't scan/process the images until now.

I guess that's my fault, but I suppose I can still post anyway.

Oh, absolutely, Mike.

The sketching contest and the monthly target are actually two separate things. The contest can be any object you wish as long as it is viewable during that month. The winner of that contest goes to the overall contest to represent the sketching forum.

The monthly target is a specific object that we target to help each other learn the different ways to sketch it.

Erika,

Thanks for clueing me in - I didn't realize the monthly target was a different thing than the contest.

But I posted my M31 sketch in the October monthly target thread after all. It was fun participating!

Mike, as Erika stated:
"The monthly target is a specific object that we target to help each other learn the different ways to sketch it."

The monthly target is one in which one can share with others thier sketch of a selected object for the month. Hopefully those that submit a sketch of the Monthly Target will also offer suggestions/tips as to how they created thier sketch, regardless of the medium or tools used to do so.

I also offers to others a more realistic idea of how a particular object might appear in the EP dependant on the scope or instrument used.

Regardless if one wishes to just post thier sketch/drawing/rendition, or if they include a few tips or a tutorial, it is all about the fun of sharing with others ones own observation(s).

Thanks for sharing your with all of us here, and hopefully it will be one of many.

Wade, your enthusiasm to make people start sketching is amazing and also contagious i'm gonna start 'pushing' people over in a belgian forum too to take up the pencil, especially for the coming mars opposition.
i'm starting to feel a bit like a lonely belgian mars sketcher I hope Rony will give mars a try too soon, his deepskysketches are superb, should be good for his planet sketches i believe.

There are 12 days left for fellow sketchers to enter this months Sketching Contest!

This month already looks to be an excellent month for member participation; but there is ALWAYS room for others to enter up until the time that the contest submissions close. If you have been thinking about entering, stop thinking about it and Do it!

Just becasue last months contest is now closed and the votes are being cast does not mean that this months contest doesn't need your contributions!

Good luck to all those who entered last months contest! But don't stop there, go ahead and enter your sketches for the upcoming months' contest as well. You may wait to see how you did this month, but PLEASE don't be discouraged if you don't win the first (or second, or third) time. Just keep entering.

Win or loose, it is just a great to see everyone participating.

Alright...we now have 6 contestants for this months contest. Although that is a great start, there is still plenty of time to enter your sketch as well; and this is a great time to do so with the many offerings for the Winter observer.

Show your support of the Sketching Forum and your enjoyment of sketching over-all by entering your sketch.
C'mon...you know you want to!

I got to come up to speed with the transfer of my sketches and our workhorse scanner. Most of mine are in a spiral bound sketch pad that will produce those hanging chad thingies...perhaps I should switch to another type of sketch pad.

Stacy and all

I see that Wade and I are trying to encourage others to enter the sketching contest- As you stated here that your scaner was causing a delay to capture images.

I am wondering now if many people are not aware that artwork can be captured with a simple good digital camera- I mean a simple one! I use a Sony Cybershot 5.1 mgpxl and then upload to Photoshop to adjust slightly, the contrast and brightness and sizing for the site protocols.

Are others here constrained with limited use of a scanner? Consider your digital cameras and preferable tripod.

Mark

Clear skies, maybe...Stacy

The September Sketching Contest is open to ANYONE who wishes to enter. There is still time folks...so come on, it really is fun. I would personally love to see a plethora of first-time or beginning sketchers enter the contest.

As a matter of fact, if there are 4 or more beginner, first-time sketchers or entrants that enter this month, I will ask the Moderator to respectfully withdraw my sketch so that there is a head-to-head contest consisting of those who have entered their sketches for the first time. (I would also like to ask others who have entered prior to do the same if 4 or more beginner/first time sketchers enter so the first-time entrants can battle it out among themselves).

Come on now. Scan them, upload them, and ENTER them!!

Why not. Not my favourite sketch, not even the best, not even the most difficult object, but hey it's mine and I'm not a contestant type of guy anyway. But please Wade, don't withdraw your sketch in any way, it's just a contest afterall.

Do you think Oprah would invite me for a talk if I win?

I have noticed lately that there have been very few fellow sketchers entering the monthly contests. There is a lot of talent out there, and everyone, regardless of your experience is welcomed to submit thier entries. What's the worse that can happen...you won't win?

I might get labeled as a professional artist?
Just kidding Wade. It is good to see you encouraging others to participate.

Honestly, I have produced so many works in the past couple months, I am having a hard time to decide which one to enter and I think they are all of the moon only. It woud be nice to have a pramble 'on-deck' to determine which to pick. With recent discussions, I wonder if I should enter the 'Art Forum' instead of the 'Astrophotography-Sketching Forum'.

Any advice from you or others would be greatly appreciated,

thanks,
Mark

Mark, congratulations for winning the September contest! Well deserved! I think you have really good chances for winning the overall contest too.

And thanks for the 2 (!) person who gave his vote for me - I was hoping to get one vote at least, so that doubled my expectations And I'm especially happy, because none of that two was myself .

Hurry, hurry...before time runs out! There is still time for others to join in the fun & games by entering their sketch for this months contest.

So far there are 8 folks who have thrown their hat in the ring, so to say, lets see if we can get a total of 10. If this is your first time or if you haven't entered in a while, go ahead and give it a try this month!

The contest for November is open for anyone wishing to throw their hat into the ring, so to say. Last month we had a good number of entries (congratulations to Mark on his sketch being selected to represent the Sketching Forum last month); and hopefully there will be as many, if not more, people entering their sketches this month!

Alright!

So far we have 3 entries in the monthly Sketching Contest...but there is still plenty of time and room for more entries for this month. We had a great showing last month, lets see if we can't get a repeat showing for this month as well.

C'mon fellow sketchers, help us represent the Sketching Forum and sketchers in general. Click, download and enter!!
