I like my SkyScout for several reasons:
1. Confirming dim stars in light polluted skies. It's been pretty accurate, within a half-degree on batteries at 75%. That's not perfect by any means, but close enough. I think of it as a complement to star charts.
2. The audio descriptions are informative and interesting. I play them for visitors to the observatory.
3. The "Identify" and "Locate" features are a great way for a person to get immediate positive results in visual astronomy. It's user-friendly enough to hand to someone and let them try it out while I keep my eye in the eyepiece!

Criterion Dynascope RV-6 (for 20 years.)
5" Newtonian Reflector on EQ mount (Lost in a house fire.)
2" Refractor (My first scope. Traded with my granddad for his 5" Newt years ago.)
