Ron, get up from the computer. Next, walk around the house until you find Sue. Ask her to come to the computer and have a seat. Then sit back and watch a master in action as she gives her opinion on what I should plant in the garden.

However, my friend, a lilac will be planted in your honor anyway.

Ok, I've got a mountain laurel already (kalmia) and have several pots of sweet woodruff in the perennial house that I started last year and was planning on using. However, like lilacs, there's no such thing as too many kalmia!

I have absolutely no idea! One of my wholesalers has purple, lavender, white and light pink varieties (I won't go into the name of the varieties, as I don't want to be disappointed if they are out of the one you would choose....better luck finding the color you want).

Do moonflowers (Convolvulaceae) grow in Ohio?

I’ve not seen Convolvulaceae ipomoea around here, however it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if people were growing them. I’ve got morning glories and potato vines, which are related, but just not quite the same thing.

However….Datura is very similar and grows beautifully here, only not in vine form. This is what I have Datura moonflower , white as well as two new plants in my secret garden that a fellow gardner started for me (purple and ruby). They have yet to bloom, but it’s still early in the season. Can you believe they are charging $30 for 40 seeds?!!! Good grief…one seed pod has hundreds of seeds in it! And it reseeds itself to boot!

I bet Ron could provide enough "fertilizer" for all of our plants!

Go lavender Ron, those smell the best. I bought a white one and I got nuttin.

I like white roses, but I'd rather you think of me when a little fire is going in the chiminea. Nothing better than a small fire on a cool day!

Which is probably why they price it as they do. If the gardener succeeds in growing it, they will likely as not never be back for more.

We just bought a white Lilac *because* it was the most fragrant of all the colors on display. It had a Russian sounding name: Lilac Krasavitsa Moskvy.

Erika, how about planting a red Peony for me. Besides being amazingly cool plants that reflect our midwest heritage, they attract aphids and ants like a magnet, making it easy to deal with them! Monsanto to the rescue -- you know, "Better living through chemistry!"

You've most likely hit the nail on the head, Tom. I started my white datura from a seed pod some friends gave to me last spring and I had around 25 plants off that to sell and use for the family. Beautiful blooms all summer long, especially wonderful in the late evenings.

Kim is a popular variety here for white lilac and I don't believe it has a scent either. I'll have to keep a lookout for Krasavita Moskvy.

Red peonies? Hmmm...I'll have to see if I can get hold of some. Again, I usually see white, pink, or lavenders.

You guys are coming up with some great suggestions and I'll make little wood stakes, with your names engraved in it, to put by your plants in your honor!
