I still can't believe how smooth that mount is!

I know guys...I am very fortunate for sure. but this means I can begin the process of planning and making the 10"f/16 I want to make and put on it. Before the problem of making or aquiring a large enough mount made the prospect tough. But now that the mount is a done deal...I can focus on making the scope to go on it.....

I know..I know...I'm still working on the 18"f/6 fork mounted newt...but I can do this as well.

My cousin is on the trail of an 11"X 13' aluminum tube for me. Of course I will build the focuser and cell.

Just got to track down the deal of the century Lens.

One thing to consider. This is a mount designed for a newtonian. Zenith viewing with a 14 foot refractor (counting focuser) will be out unless you get that head up higher. With proper filtering, it'd be awesome for viewing planets and the moon, though . Maybe you can fold it?

Might want to start thinking about baffles, too. That's gonna be one helluva scope!

Keith....the head will be placed on a cement based steel pier that will put the head about 9 ft in the air.

This will also be going into a roll-off roof OB I will build on the site where the red roofed barn is currently standing.

I know this is a newtonian pier set-up. I am going to use the head alone for the 10"f/16.

I hope so. I will adopt the John Pons baffle idea. By attaching all the baffles to side polls and you can simply slide it into the tube and secure it.

If I can find an 11" f/16 I might go that route too.

It's gonna be big for sure, and it will be in its own OB.

Thanks.....The only grab-n-goin that will be done is when the scope is on it and you are hand slewing from object to object. It took three of us to let it drop out of the back of the pick-up.

Fer sure. I got more friends who work in the ship yard on the trail of that 11"x13' aluminum tube. I hope to have secured one before winter sets in. That way I can begin making the crayford with electric drive focuser for it.....and the baffles system.

I got the 18" mirror back on the polisher and am going at it again.

So beautiful here at GOMOC today and I am grinding on my new 17" mirror to.

I will be holding the last SP of the season the last weekend of this month..just before I leave for my son's graduation from bootcamp in Calif.

I have been doing lots of yard work and stuff and GOMOC is looking good.

Here are some images of today in the shop and of GOMOC.

The new 17" grinding on the machine witha new aluminum 30" table.

Let's see......No TMSP..no MBSP..no OSP..no rain out MSHSP..and no excuses.

Still...if no one shows..I'll understand. It simply means I will hold one party a year and that will be it.

And since the months and available weekends are quite limited...I expect no miracles. I do expect to continue to work on my scopes and to plug away at what I do.

If all works out..I hope to see you the last weekend of Sept.

Here's hoping for clear skies and no last minute work emergencies
I am looking foward to seeing GOMOC since it moved from the driveway.
