      #1030546 - 07/05/06 03:00 PM

What do the different coatings colors of eyepieces mean? For instance, green, etc.

In general, the coatings used on different glass types vary in color due to different chemical composition of the coatings. the most widely used coating is Magnesium fluoride, which is blue-violet. Many of the green coatings include rare earth oxides, and are also possibly the result of several layers of coatings, i.e. :multicoated. Most of the eyepiece manufacturers keep the actual composition of these coatings highly proprietary (top secret!).

Hope this somewhat superficial explanation helps.

I think that is very difficult to tell. I see all sorts of color in my eyepieces, green, blue, red, violet and even yellow. In my pans then even change color when i roll them in my hand....
