Went out to water things this morning and found a small handful of ripe cherry tomatoes. What a grand way to start the day!
And not a peck mark on any of them. Those birds are really falling down on the job.

No tomatoes yet - all are green little balls. Except our volunteer on the northside of the house. Had ripe ones there a couple days ago. But he don't count.

Tom I love homegrown tomatoes. I live in a condo with a Northern Exposure on all the decks, so not much chance I would be able to grow any. Fortunately my friends(in a good way) with gardens take pity on me from time to time and offer me tomatoes. Tom will you be my friend?

I'd have to mail them to you, and they'd be tomato sauce by the time you got them.

I picked the last of mine today, Tigerella.Still a few cherry tomatoes on the vine but will probably need to pull them up and ripen them under the porch, I can feel the frost a'comin.

Hello Matt,
I'm curious; what varieties of tomato are popular in Australia?

Most popular easy to get varieties would be Gross Lisse, Tommy Toe and the Italians especially like the Roma and its varieties. There is also a variety marketed as the Burkes Backyard tomato, named after a gardening/ {"lifestyle" show here in Oz.He did not develop it, just decided he thought it was the best so marketed it under his own name. Im pretty sure it is Rouge D'Marmande (spelling?)There are a couple of garden suppliers who are getting into the the heirloom varieties and as they become more popular the larger growers get in the act.

Today we have our first big tomatoes. We've had some early cherry tomatoes already. They are over five feet tall now and quite out of control.
