Does anyone have ideas to protect the fold-out map (while you're viewing) on the SkyAtlas 2000? I was thinking of 2 pieces of plexiglass "hinged" with tape. Would appreciate any suggestions on things you have used. Carol

Carol -
See this thread :
Sky Atlas Chart Carrier
In the end, I don't use the chart-carrier that often. I wish I had made the plexiglass-clipboard carrier instead. I am thinking of making one with a long piano hinge instead of tape, shorter hinges, or velcro. Who knows when I'll get around to it though...

Hi Carol, I assume you're speaking about the deluxe edition? What I do is leave that baby indoors where it's safe, and I use a SA2000 field edition that I had laminated. For me, the deluxe is too nice for taking outdoors, and the colors don't help me any under a red flashlight anyway. I like the individual charts that I can put on my music stand at the eyepiece, and not worry about trashing them accidentally. I save the deluxe for planning, or just indoor stargazing. - Rick

Plexiglass is pretty thick and even the thinnest stuff I could find seemed like overkill. So I bought two poster frames from WallyWorld and used that plastic and it worked out really well. Narrow (1/4"?) double-stick automotive tape was used to seal the two sides and bottom, and the thickness of the tape left plenty of room to slide the charts in and out of the top.. I've had them in there back-to back on occasion, too.

Carol: Aha! This is what I was looking for! All I wanted is some-thing to slide the open chart into; #1 to help it lay flat, & to keep it stable if breezy. Thanks so much!

Glad to help, Carol! I also made an easel to keep the charts at eye-level but wind proved to be bothersome. However, an upside-down 'V' of thin elastic cording (from the top to the bottom of the chart) holds them down just great.
