That's a fine looking scope. If you don't mind, where did you get your achromat lens?

Kingjamez, thanks for the pictures! I'm slowly plodding through my own version of a ball-scope, so seeing other efforts is a boon. What's your take on the motion? I'd think that the bucket bearing would have rough edges. If you get a chance to post some more pictures, especially on how you attached your truss rods, I'd appreciate it! - j

Got my lens from "great eye" a chinese supplier that advertises on ebay under "refractor lens", also sells f/12 and f/9, excellent quality and finishes, easy to deal with. If I was younger I would have gotten a 10" F/6-7, but I wanted a scope I could deal with for another 15 years. This evening I'll take some pictures of my mount without the scope mounted for a clearer view and post them.

Ryan,

Can you post a picture of your scope taken apart, and packed for travel? I'm also interested in your UTA, focuser/spider arrangement, it's hard to see in your first picture. I'm working on a travel scope myself.

Thanks,

Gregg, I took the pics and posted them here. Hope that helps you out with yours. BTW when do we get to see some "work in progress" pics of yours?

Found great-eye on Ebay. Seems like he's doing well selling 80mm ED triplets. Been wondering where I could find that sort of lens. I didn't see anything larger 'cept for a massive 8.5" f12 for $1500, but I'll keep my great-eye open

Thanks for the tip and Clear Skies!

Jay,
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I would post more pics, but I found I had to rework the scope. The struts as pictured above were causing vignetting by 1/4" on all sides to make my 8" scope a 7.5". So tonight I changed the angle they bend too, to 45 degrees rather than 90 as pictured above. That worked fine. I'll post some pics of the completed scope soon.

Art,

Sorry for the 2-month delay in responding to your query.

The paint I used on my little RFT WAS the RustOleum stone finish. However, the stone finish paints need to have a clear coat applied over them to be weatherproof. It's the clear coat that gives the scope its sheen.

Wow!

Very nice details and design.
That scope took a lot of work, congratulations.

How are the views?

Harry:

Welcome to CloudyNights and thanks for posting a link to pictures of your scope. I like the way it stacks for transporting.

I recently finished building a 22-inch Dob heavily influenced by German ATMers.
