I was wondering the same thing. My camera is a little different from Randy's. My QHY camera is using a Kodak KAF-6302CE which has 9um x 9um pixels.
He is probably looking at the unupdated website that has his old 3.3mp cooled camera.
Here is a pic of the front of my camera. This is the older style of QHY camera. I think he is or has devoloped a different case for the newer ones which looks much better. That is no 3mp ccd in there!

Hi Randy:
Your image is so amazing. I have seen them couple of week ago which QHY give me.But I think maybe you should process them again(including dark frame and flattening image).
Hope you are really enjoyed it.
I reprocessed your image based on your above image (.jpg format) as follows:

I hope you do not mind reprocessing your image.
Dennis

QiuHY; Good luck with your dissertation. I just completed mine this past summer and received my diploma yesterday. Good luck with the new cameras as well.

The camera comes with proprietary software from QHY. Qiu has written plugin for MaximDL also. I have included another color shot. It was a late shot of horsehead. 4 900 second exposures........ No darks.

Very nice pictures.
Randy, why did you use so long exposure? Has a camera problem with sensitivity? I have seen similar picture with 1500s exposure by the EOS 300D.

QHY is good to see you here in CN again. I understand you are a bit busy now, but that is good nonetheless! I lost track of you a while back!!
Anyway... I hope you'll keep us posted on those new CCD and any new products! We are surely waiting!!

Randy: great pictures there!

Here is my effort from saturday night. Not the best of conditions as it was cloudy and misty. The moon made things worse, but the camera picked up something in the 30sec subs i was using.
The horizontal streaking is because i have no shutter attached to the camera. Its a full frame 6303E ccd so the readout method it uses causes this.

JanM,
Can you verify that if right before the end of the exposure, cover the objective immediately then take the readout, will the image look different?
Clear Skies!

Yes, If you cover the objective right before the start of the exposure uncover it for the exposure, then recover it just before exposure ends no streaking is present. I have verified this, Dennis uses the same camera and he uses the above method i think.
The steaking is vericle but i have rotated the image.
Its just that for 30 sec subs its a lot of effort so did not bother. It was test picture as i am waiting for my AP900 mount. Chris my freind has let me borrow his losmandy GM-8 mount and it was the first night out with this.
Next time i will try longer exposures and be the manual shutter... hehehe
Will post the results.

Here is a testing image with no uncovering and covering of the objective. Clearly shows the need for a shutter.
The QHY 8 ccd does not need a shutter as do the rest of the sony chips as they are not full frame like the 6303E is.

Thanks everyone for the posts.....and thanks QHY for such a great camera.....I really appreciate the improved processing Dennis.....your great! I hope to get more time to image in the next few weeks. Hopefully practice and use will bring out even more great images from this camera. I really appreciate the time QHY took to write the Maxim plugin.....really a big help. Later.....
