Took this last weekend. Got 10 x 5 minute exposures before the moon woke up. Celestron 102AZ scope. Canon Unmodified 10D, 800 iso on a G11 mount guided with PHD. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker with Sigma. This is much better than the last time I tried it. I hope to get out this weekend and get more time on it.

I think that's a great shot. Forgive me but I had to have a bit of a play with the jpeg. The colour balance is now probably all wrong and its a bit grainy but that would be cured by adding (a lot) more subs and also by working on the original but it shows your setup is a really good one to start with. I look forward to more. Cheers, Alan C.

That looks real good, especially for an ummodded camera and less than an hour exposure time. With another couple of hours it'll be sensational.

Nice -- The Horsehead is tough with an unmodded DSLR, but you can see it clearly in this shot. Also, you managed to avoid the usual blue halo around Alnitak.

Nice shot, Dwight. I tried this with 3 minute subs and my Horsehead looked more like a pony. I have a clunky old wedge that makes drift alignment a real challenge so I shy away from any exposures longer than 3 minutes....but this object is near the celestial equator so I may have a go at it this weekend. Nice image...like the above post says, you managed to avoid the blue halo around Alnitak...is that Celestron an Apochromat? clear skies..

Thanks everyone. The scope is a $150 4 inch achro without any filters. I got my IDAS LPS the day after this shot. The first time I tried this target, I had a donkey instead of a horse. I hope to try it with the filter this weekend.
