Tonight's weather at TSP looks like the clouds will depart and leave us with poor/very poor transparency. Maybe it'll be decent enough to give me some binocular or eye candy views. It won't be a night for hunting down dim objects.

Jim,
That is too cool! I love the feedback I've gotten about my birding outreach at TSP, and from my astronomy outreach at Bryce Canyon National Park. Enjoy your new hobby, and thanks for letting me know I helped nurture your interest.
But be warned. Bird watching is at least as addictive as astronomy.

It would be nice to view through the Televue Ethos/NP 127is and the Obsession UC. I'm not sure if the UC is still here. It wasn't in the vendor building this morning.
Several of the vendors have pulled out already, including Gary Parkerson and Gary and Jeanne Myers.
Alvin and I are thinking of pulling out Saturday morning, since Saturday night doesn't look much better than tonight.
Barbara Wilson announced 503? registrants as of last night, but more than half of the people have left already.

Len and Alvin aren't birders, so their comments are from another perspective than mine. They note that birds aren't always present when you get to the right place to look for them. The DSOs and stars always are there, although you may not be able to see them

I saw Kriege pull out this morning...at least I think he did as his vehicle was pulling the trailer out.

Hope you folks don't mind if I post a few boring scenery pics from my little road trip this morning.
A cloudy valley...

Alvin poked fun at me after the Colima Warbler hike for eating an ice cream, while he and Len ate chicken sandwiches. Last night, he sneaked out in the dark to the snack shack to buy a nitrite and nitrate and cholesterol laden fatty chopped pig lips and eyeballs and ears in a white bread bun hot dog!
Len gave me a kiss to give to Dennis. A Hershey's kiss. Sorry, Dennis, I had to eat it before the hot Texas sun melted it. Seriously, we had to turn on the heat in our bunkhouse in the middle of the day, and your kiss from Len was in danger of melting. Len says he'll make it up to you at TSP 2008 when you two guys meet up on the mountain again to continue your annual guy get-together

Another cloudy valley with a few mountain ridges in the background. I'd imagine this view would be much prettier without the low clouds and fog.

Ya know Steph, that cloud deck is pretty low.
How far from TSP do you actually live? Was it a complete wash for you, or did you get any viewing in?
Last night here was clear as a bell, and the weather for MSHSP will be the same, so you are more then welcome to come our way for extra credit....
Hope the skies at your OB are fitting for a good night out, when you get home.....

I'm sitting here on the porch, almost being blinded by the reflection of some bright object shining on my vehicle windshield from the sky... Is it a meteor? A comet? A supernova? THE SUN?
Oh wait, it's gone now.
