Vintage Mizar EQ 68mm f1000 new
      #1332154 - 12/31/06 04:40 AM Attachment (134 downloads)

Here's another oldie but goodie....a Mizar 68mm f1000. I have not found a single snipit from the past on this scope. The build quality and optics are top notch. You'll notice how unusual the EQ mount is, seems to have a do-dad for anything and everthing. Look at the camera adaptor on the CW shaft....very cool. BTW the mount is actually very clean and pretty much blemish free. I have no idea why the picures look so bad, you'd think I just drug it out of the barn. The focuser is super nice and has both a .965 and a 1.25" visual back that came with it. Tube is yellowing but no dings, dents or chips. This mount also has the funky tube ring setup that does not open up (like the bushnell my previous post) The mount is for the southern hemisphere and has a conversion table on one of the legs for the northern hemisphere. Tripod tray is not the original although it did come with the original, which is the standard triangle with eyepiece holes and is white in color. Truly a unique scope to be sure.

I know I'll be asked if the description is a typo so I'll go ahead and address it now. It is in fact a 68mm which I know is a strange aperature but that is in fact what it is.

ok, Im drooling all over my keyboard now, lol. This is a sweet scope, and at 68mm rather differant, but I love this scope.
There is just asomething about the white tube on an eq mount that gets my blood pressure up.

Hi Jim,

I have two of them and the optics are just great. In the Netherlands they were sold in the seventies for almost the same price as the Unitron/Polarex EQ 60mm f900 !!
Both are optically better as my 60/75mm Unitron/Polarex telescopes.
The other good thing is you can buy them in the Netherlands
for only $100 - $175 !!( good as new )

Hi Jim,

Very nice setup! It looks like a keeper, for sure! The fact that is was made to be used in the Southern hemisphere is interesting, too. Post more pictures when you can...particularly of the badge on the focuser.

Jan,

I like the lineup you have listed under your signature! That's a top quality inventory of equipment!

Very nice. On my camera, I need to push the "flower" setting to have it focus close. Maybe that would help your photos. We'd all like to see more. Thanks for sharing.

Nice refractor. I too fall for the white tube refractors on an equitorial. Very nice looking scope.
Now if I could just find a nice 3 inch eq I'd be in hog heaven.
The "flower" setting on your camera will put you in macro mode for close up pic's.
