hello to all last night was very clear no moon so i had a about 4 hours to play leaving orion alone . i consentrated on the pair of galaxys m81/m82 for the first time. ive located them before for visual but dot for imaging so a 32mm eyepiece first to locate and then swaped over for the camera focusing was the nightmare but after serveral trial shots and double checking pole star was centred. i did this single shot 8" 1000mm f5 reflector 350d exp time 3mins. ive done the adjustments in adobe photoshop 6 and noise by neatimage. as i havent got any asto software. can any one with hints or tips ive shown the original and my attempt full prime view no cropping.

 many thanks jason

Single exposure, not bad at all...
Stack about 10 more shots like that and you'll bring out a lot of details...

Good shot, especially for a single exposure of just 3 minutes -- it has good spiral details in M81, and not much noise.

Very nice for a single image.
I highly recommend ImagesPlus. It will do almost everything. From focusing (need computer), image acquisition to processing. The tutorials are great and will get you up to speed the quickest of any software IMHO.

I think I would email Mike Unsold on that one. The EULA says on line 2.6 "The Product is licensed as a single product. Its COMPONENT parts may not be separated for use by more than one user (or for use on more than one computer for Server Software". Hope I'm OK for quoting the EULA here.
Personally I can't see Mr Unsold denying it for a field laptop and also faster workstation for processing. But then again

Nice! You caught some pretty good detail of M81's spiral arms and M82 is just plain good!

I asked Mike the same question and was told I can use it on more than one computer (up to 3) as long as I was primary user.
It's a great program!!

Jason, here is a link where you will find a program called IRIS. It's freeware and quite powerful. Know though, that it is geekware and takes some getting use to. If you look on this web site you will also see some tutorials on how to use it. Hope this helps.
Edit: I don't know if you have a planetarium yet for your session planing. But if not, Cartes du Ciel is an outstanding one that I just love. I have bought others but did not like them as much. I use CDC to plan my sessions and to control my NJP. It's very accurate. Also, one of its features will download images from several websites (one is skyview.gsfc.nasa.gov). With these images you can verify if you are on target by comparing your image with the downloaded one. And it is free.
Be sure to read Rod Mollise's review on it.
Bill, that's what Mike told me also, however I was reluctant to say that is his policy for everyone. I think it best to ask first because the EULA does not state it.
Better safe than sorry.
