On a recent trip I found that my 8x42s, due to the design and shape of their twist-up eyecups, match pretty well to my digital camera. This allowed me to capture a few scenes at "8x zoom" where my camera only has 4x. A few examples attached; I thought they came out pretty well - though at the 5x size reduction for this forum it's hard to bring this across.

I know this is the CLOUDY DAYS forum , but I would be OVER THE MOON if I could take photos as nice as that through MY binoculars ! :-)
I presume you added the " circle " in photoshop or some such tool ?

Walter, Kenny, the first building is just a villa I noticed in a coastal landscape I was shooting along the Mediterranean in France. The second is a village I spotted on top a cliff next to the road inland from Nice - see attached overview image.
The circle is actually the edge of view from the binoculars!

Thank you Mark , and very nice they are too .
In 2002 , some members of my family and I spent two weeks in a villa in Menorca , which looked similar to the one in the first photo , except the round section formed the MAIN part of the dwelling .
I LOVED that large round , communal lounge / dining area , with windows looking out in eight different directions .
And there was a lovely little swimming pool in the south west facing garden area .
Indeed it was from a horizontal sun lounger alongside that pool on balmy , yet crystal clear September nights that I had my most enjoyable and memorable star gazing sessions with my Zeiss 7 x 42s !
I wish I was there right NOW ! :-)
In fact , I could probably have stayed there FOREVER and be most contented :-)

thanks Mike; until I can more or less mount the camera to the binocular with some sort of adapter, holding them both in my hands takes too long fumbling to get the image right. I haven't seen that many patient birds...

Yes, Very impressive indeed! I must have close to a thousand digital photos during my summer travels this year. Most of them didn't turn out as well WITHOUT me trying to frame thru an 8X binocular. At first glance I thought you took those photos thru a Zeiss 85mm T *FL Diascope with your digital comera attached to their pricy camera adapter....then I read the rest.....WOW!

It's quite remarkable you should have said that .
Upon first seeing Mark's great photos , the FIRST thing which came into my head was along the lines of " THESE look JUST like the kind of things I see when I see through the Zeiss Diascope from half a mile away " ! :-)

Well, I don't think you can really mean that Kenny - but I'll take it as a compliment nonetheless. What I mean with this not being so, is that when looking through the binoculars, the view is incomparably more detailed and sharp and contrasty and saturated and ... and I'm quite sure your diascope would even better that.
This was most noticeable on the ship, on which all the lettering was much easier to read than on the picture.
Made me wonder: if the picture taken through the binocular with a 7 MP camera is so much less sharp, how many megapixels do our eyes have ???
Quite a lot of it is shooting technique no doubt. As I said, handholding the binoculars in one hand and the camera in the other is slightly less than ideal.
One thing that did really surpise me is how well the apparent visual sharpness at the very edge of view, transferred well into the images.

These are exquisite photos considering all that was necessary to achieve them.
Concern over lack of resolution vs. actual views is understandable and acceptable, especially considering how good these images actually look. One real "bugaboo" with hand-held shots is camera shake. Even the slightest amount - normally not evident unless you enlarge the image to where it is noticeable - will ever-so-slightly blur the image.
Still, I find your photos delightful and way more than "adequate".

Hi Mark,
Your'e welcome.
Yes I do have a camera,an olympus FE130 point and shoot,set up on a little mount behind my 15x70's,
I do a little Astrophotography,with them,but unfortunately,
Dont have the lovely scenes you had access too.
I will have to jump in the car and have a look around.
To be honest too,my knowledge of taking good photos,would fit on a stamp.
