It looks like the 6 in. f15 was white originaly?

When you getting the binoculars?

That would be a Black and white image there Kerry..You know, they had-em when you were a kid...

Actually he didn't give me a time frame, but I aint worried cuz just to have him openly say I can have them, is thrill enough....

Maybe it means he will take a car trip up here soon to see GOMOC, and deliver the binos...or maybe it means after he passes away..
I doubt the latter.

Rob, my impression of your Dad has gone up five-fold. Making a refractor is one thing (not figuring in all the nice doodads the 6" has), but making a pair of prism binos that are actually collimated and work is something entirely else. Wow.

The mechanics of that hydraulic mount are a major 'wow', too.

Rob, I'm really happy for you, that you're getting your dad's binocs. What a tie to your family heritage!

I remember helping him on the optical bench. He designed and built both optical systems, and then, as you said, collimated them perfectly. It is wonder of skill, and workmanship.

And He gave them to me....
I can't believe it. Dad is so cool.

Now when I actually take possession of them is entirely a differnet issue. Still, he wants me to have them, so that could mean a road trip some time soon...

Indeed. It's like everything he made had some very unique item added to make it better then its competition..
Or he was just fed up with what was out there, and *Cured* the ill. The hydraulic pier for one. And the electric helical focuser.

Now the genious of his optical/machining skills is further revealed by these binos. You aught to see the duplicating machine he whipped up to make duplicate carvings of anything you can mount on the model table.

I plan on using it to dublicate..in wood, intricate metal parts for telescopes. Like back plates. Its uses are numerous for sure.

Plus there is that other scope in California. That guy down there still refuses to let it go. He says his girlfriend like it. I have to pray about that one.

Right. Thus far I have aquired two of his scopes, his Binocs(WOW), and one of his duplicating machines.

Now if I could only tap into that genetic genious he left behind, I could be really doing something...

I plan on dedicating the Center in his name, and a plaque will be made to recognize this..

Nope..

Every time we agree, he backs out of it at the last minute.

If you knew that this guy is the son of the man who my father made the scope for, you'd also know that he probably wants it cause it was HIS fathers. Still, as the creator's son I think I should be given the option of aquiring it if I want. Both of his parents, think I should.

It is a heritage thing. Well that's how I see it any way.

Someday.. when he breaks up with his girlfriend.
(Not that that is what I'm wishing for)

Update!

OK folks.. I am employing you for suggestions.

I need to know what days in Late June Early July would be best for all for the opening day for GOMOC?

Now I know that MSHSP is the 9th of June, and I won't be ready at GOMOC till later that month. Not till school lets out. So, Tom, Kerry, Bill...All you guys, what is a good day?

June: Weekend of 6/16 (Klickitat S.P. is weekend of 6/23 & Luau is weekend of 6/29)

July: Weekend of 7/7 or 7/21 (TMSP is weekend of 7/12 - 7/14)

August: Poor options, since MBSP & OSP take up the two darkest weekends

No, but I am running out of dates..

Last night was awesome, and it was a waxing moon. So any time I can get.

If most of my CN buddies are going to big star parties, then I guess I'll be out by myself..

Well looks like I will either be on my own, or I need to make some new friends.

I won't be going to TMSP, or Klick/Luau, and dependant on the scheduals of OAS, and TAS, I probably not going to MBSP.

There will be plenty of observers who will not be attending these major parties, and who might want to stay closer to home. Any way I'm gonna be at MSHSP, probably without LBM.
I will bring my smaller scopes.

I have to focus on being available for folks coming to GOMOC.

We will probably be operating most clear weekends till summers done. Life has just taken on a new role.

Not to worry, Robster, I think you’ll have plenty of usn’s around to keep ya happy! As for me, I plan on being out of state for a week-maybe two-around the Fourth of July for my 50th High School Reunion – can you believe it?

And out of a class of 64 there’s only about 39 of us left to bemoan the fate of the others….sighhh!

……50 years ago I actually graduated from something!!

I don’t want to jinx anything right now so will only say that a couple of us are working on an “observing site” over here too…..tho not quite with the level of sophistication as GOMOC but should serve our needs well….more details as things progress towards a more certifiable conclusion.

Like Steph, I also had assumed you already had your Dad’s other scope back in March (?) I think.....so much for “assumptions”, eh?

Congrats on the site...Hope you work out the bugs.
There are always bugs.

Yeah, I thought I had the scope in the bag as well. Again the owner, made the excuse that his girlfriend really likes it. So maybe next time....Right.

Anyway, he told me to call back in 6 months or so, and recheck..

I'm trying to be very polite about this whole thing, but man.....

Anyways...good luck at your reunion. Making all the lies you will have to tell *stick*, can be tough....

Do you think they will believe you are a major stock holder in MS?? I just hope you don't have to do any CPR or anything medical while you're there...
Those instances, really reveal your Medical license isn't as current as you claim.....

Just poking fun at ya my friend.....
Have a great time of reflection, and loving on old friends.
