You need a room?

That's alright. Just wanted to make sure you were good.
My sweety has turned one room into a hotel type room for guests, and the other room is her craft room with a full size bed in it.
Of course I always have the futon in the meeting room.
Then there is the tent field and lots of ground for cots-n-stuff.
What ever folks needs(to a degree)

I have guest coming in from out of town this weekend and will most likely miss GOMOC.
But who knows, maybe I can interest them in a star party.

You do know...Tomkins...that this is a great opportunity for you to let your friends know the *other* side of you....
Even if you don't stay all evening..you could come for several hours. I mean if you HAVE to get back for some pressing Sunday gig...well then I understand.
And doesn't this out of town friend know your daughter? Well there you go....it's settled.

My current plan is to go over there early Saturday and bring a weapon, probably just the .22, although I might bring my muzzleloader, and blow some holes in paper targets. Rob, do you have any preferences on arrival time?
Even if it clears into a beautiful evening, though, I'm not going to stay late. I'm just ridiculously behind on sleep, I think to an unhealthy degree. . . I'll be going home to get a good night's.
Hope to see some of you guys & gals!

Its still up in the air. I'll reply tomorrow morning either way as soon as things solidify. There's a strong chance that I can't, though.
I took Joey, now 14, out to the range today. M1 Garand, Finnish Model 39 Mosin-Nagant and a Ruger 10-22 were the rifles of the day;
The Garand performed flawlessly, and shooting prone lefty (my right eye is *BLEEP*, so I have to shoot non-dominant side) I was able to keep the groups within 4 MOA (1 MOA is 1" at 100 yards, 4 MOA is rifleman standard) with open sights. The M39s came out of the Finnish arsenals with accuracy specs of under 2 MOA, but since they do not have peep sights, the kind of accuracy it is capable of is probably beyond me at this point with my aging eyes, and I refuse to modify my military weapons with sporting scopes. The Ruger 10-22 is just a little carbine job, but it has replacement open sights that mimic those found on the M1A. With basic rifleman instruction today, she got her accuracy down from from MOB (Minute of Barn) to 5 to 6 MOA with occasional flyers. I let her touch off one round through the M39, too ) Poor thing...even with proper stance, rifle pulled into her shoulder and a pad between the buttplate and her, it still rocked her back a few inches. It didn't hurt her, but she quickly wanted to return to the .22.
Sorry about all of the rifle talk...we've had persistant clouds and rain for days now, so nothing new in Astronomy has happened here .

Muzzleloading, Mike? Vintage or modern? I've had a real urge to pick up a British Martini-Henry breechloader (original, not a Khyber Pass recreation), but the ammunition, although available, is custom and extremely expensive. I wouldn't mind getting a recreation Henry or Kentucky long rifle. Do you cast your own bullets?

Kind of a cross between. It's a .54 cal Lyman (made in Italy), with walnut stock (nice cheekpad carved in) & sling. It isn't really a reproduction of any particular model, but a nice, short-barreled model with classic lines I chose for hunting.

I don't cast my own ammo. I used to cast round balls when I used a .50, but they just didn't have enough heft for stopping power. I compensated for that by generating more boom with faster burning 3F instead of 2F powder, but that system eventually, ummm, sorta damaged the weapon. (Damage day also gave me a ringing in my right ear that lasted several days, but no scars.)
I'm a fan of Buffalo Bullets, which are pre-greased miniballs with an expandable skirt that grabs the rifling. They tip the scales at 460 gr., so when I hit something it stays hit.

Hi Rob,
Well, I just got back from Mom-in-law's house. She's refinancing and needed some stuff done before the appraisers come over next week. I figured I'd get home way before now, but I just got back (4PM), so I'll probably stay here for the evening. I'd probably fall asleep as soon as I got there . Hope everyone has a good time. I'll be there soon this summer.

Rob,
I'm sorry to say that something came up and I'm not going to make it this time. I hope you get that hole in the clouds that the Clear Sky Clock is showing.

No problem Brad.....We actually had very clear skies. They were clear and steady...seeing was pretty good too.
Walt stuck with me till the end(around 12:30)..when the clouds came in a like a lion.
We got to check out some new stuff...like the *other* double/double in Lyra.
Walt and I had a great time. Mike was there too for the shooting and he shot his 22 cal rifle. He did pretty good too. Walt was a good shot as well. I didn't shoot but just moitored the shots through my newt that was mounted on its pier near by.
We enjoyed some brats for dinner, and all in all it was nice to see Mike and Walt again.
I took LBM out(first in nearly 4 months)...He was awesome. We talked shop...mirrors....scopes....food....and life in general. It was great.
And where were you Kerry?
