Thanks again Rob! You are a great astro host for sure.
Rob and Walt were having a blast shooting. The only problem was that I told Rob the gun shoots a little to the left and a little low...NOT THAT MUCH ROB!
(Hey Rob, the target is straight ahead)
Nah...that's how far off your scope was.....
I had to correct that much to get it to hit the target at all......
Actually I was shooting the cans you put up for Maddie before you could get her set up to shoot em.....Hee Hee
Rob(man...I need to lose a few pounds... )

I had a GREAT time. If popping off rounds in the old 512 and the little loud pop gun was not enough, getting to shoot a black powder rifle for the first time and about 100 + rounds out of a .177 caliber air rifle just topped it off! The Exotic Hardwood Observing Chair works great for a shooting stand, it is solid and stable! (looks good too!) After dark I managed to get a few firsts with my Z10, the dumbbell neb, and Veil neb were my highlights of the night. I was ready to pull a all nighter, but no one else was game. I know how pain can really put a damper on things, sorry Rob! The picture of the lizard does not show the size, it is tiny! All of two inches long, including tail. It is in a one PINT mason jar in that picture.

Walt..it is always a pleasure to have you come to our parties. You bring a lot to them and I want to say the coffe was awesome. Vic wanted me to tell you it was great.
Yes it was a full star party...and I wish I could have kept going but my legs/feet were killing me so. You could have stayed and played with Karry in the wee hours of the morning. I had an extra room.
Any way..next time I am going to spend a bit more time relaxin on my bum...instead of running around like that perverbial chicken..... Plus the soles of my shoes were worn thin and I need new ones. They didn't help.
Still it was one of the best parties we ever had. Not the most people...but surely one of the best.
Just remember you can call me any time if you want to come out.....

Yes that was a nice little star party. This was the first time I'd had the 12.5" Tom L scope out since I've had my collimation tools. Bill helped with the collimation since it was his scope until very recently. It really holds collimation quite well once it's assembled. It has a very solid structure and mirror cell.
I think that the dumbbell actually had some color in this scope. I was taking in a look at the double cluster with my 40mm GSO Kellner (can it really be a Kellner with 60* AFOV?), which BTW does quite well in this f/6 scope even if it only has three elements, when Bill loaned me his 31 Nagler, Holy Smoke!! what a view! I won't forget that ever. Won't be buying one either though. I'd never used a OIII filter before and was amazed at how it brought out the veil nebula, neat. The globulars are still my favorite for now though.
I like small gatherings like this where you can do more trying out and trading around eyepieces and the like. And it's going to get more interesting too when Rob gets a few of his projects on line. He's more ambitious than I am, of course he has a shop too. My work space is about 10 sqft with about 4 sq ft of counter space. It's hard to build much with that. My next project is a shop, but it might take a while.
Thanks again to Rob and Vicki for putting this on and being such a great host and hostess. I look forward to the next time.

Yeah...we only had 9...maybe 10 scopes and about 25 folks were present...but still it was awesome. Some Key folks couldn't attend...so we would have had at least 35 folks.
Anyway...if I had speekers, and swap meats, and scope making contests...we might be bigger. But I'm not into the real big party stuff. We focus on lots of *un-normal* daytime activities...*shooting, archary).
I want to thank you for bringing out your *box of give-aways*.....you may have contributed to some of my projects...
That new scope of yours (Endeavour) is a real work of art(thanks Tom)...and boy were the views awesome!
You handled its assembly and disassembly quite well too...
Vic really loved the views in your little home made scope.....the one you matched the objective to the EP.
She talked about that all night....
Remember brad....jsut cuz the official season is over..if a nice night is upon us feel free to call me and come out.
The door is always open. That goes for any of you people....
If Walt comes he has to bring coffee...
And I know Kerry will be back...cuz I have one of his EP's..
And also remember...We build scopes all year long..not just in the summer months.

It was a great success Tom. I think the weather was some of the best. Last night was just as good...but because the day was in the 80's...it took a long time for the stars to settle down and Jupiter was a wash......
However.....this morning..Orion was to die for....I could almost see color(naked eye) in the nebulae...
It is a great large bino object for sure...
If you put in your request now...I can have a nice room reserved for you for next year......(hint..hint)

Next time, I will bring my french press, and make coffee with that. Your taste buds will not know what hit them...
At the next party I will need to show just how easy it is to roast your own, and you will get the results to keep!

Hey Rob!! I posted a brief note in te MSHSP thread but I have been late in making an entry here.....sorry for the delay.
First I want to thank you Rob and Vic not just for your always-warm hospitality but for contributing your wondrful place to the enjoyment of us all. It was great to spend time with you and to also share a few views with your wonderful wife. I also really enjoyed the tour of your mirror production operation and your overview of the process! It was very informative and I am humbled by your ambition and willingness to take these projects on. Of course the rest of the shop tour was equally inspiring.
I was happy to finally meet Walt in person and to enjoy his company, shooting, discussing the finer points of roasting coffee, drinking said divine brew, admiring his craftmanship on the chair/shooting stand......and last but not least, viewing some great DSOs - thanks Walt for sharing some EP time with your Dob with me!
Brad - it was great to see you again, see and see through Endurance (it was almost like I never sold it ) and to see your very cool refractor collection.
Of course it was also great to see Kerry and Cindy as always!!!! I loved shooting the airguns and seeing the Robo-dob in action pulling in stellar views. The DSC set you have going with your mods is amazing. It makes me think I should skip the Argonavis and Servocat options on the Webster and just get it plain and have the Master-Fabber mod it up for me
And it was great too to meet Greg although I don't know if I'd recognize him I met him in daylight
All around GREAT time and very good skies and good times for sure!!!!!
Thanks Rob and Vic!!!

Since this thread was getting long anyway, in accordance with our policy of limiting long threads to approx. 1300-1500 posts, I've moved the latest posts from Feb 2009 to a new separate thread, GOMOC, Part II. Enjoy!
