I should be bringing a little tent thing what ever you want to call it out so you guys are welcome to hang out there. I am still not sure what I am bringing out. I thought about my 10" dob for visual and 8"SCT for imaging. But now it looks like the 10" dob and the ST-80 for wider field viewing and solar viewing with a SM40 suring the day. Its getting closer!
Not sure what I want to look for though. I like those small planetary nebulas so I might hunt those down and maybe the dark nebulas in the milky way core. (those were amazing at the GCSP.)

I'd be more bummed out, but the conflicting event is one of those things my wife and I do every October, and look forward to during the intervening year. When the AASP shifted into October, this was bound to happen sooner or later.
Better luck next year.

Maybe not this year... a fellow club member now has a 32. Not sure if he'll be there though.

I'll have to agree that it serves up some mighty nice views. Observing the Veil earlier this month at the Cherry Road site was most memorable.

Peter,
Yes I love looking through the big dobs. The biggest was Dennis Young's Home Made f/3.6 28" with Kennedy Optics Primary at the GCSP. But that 25" Obsession kills. Its also I pleasure to talk to you as well. I will probably be talking to you for a bit since I am going to start a pool for my 18" Obsession soon.

Just in case the out of towners think we are hot down here, the desert can get fairly cool at night yet be too darn warm during the day so pack accordingly. Don't forget a good hat to ward off the early morning chills too.
I usually bring (and end up wearing) insulated bib overalls from my biking days to stay warm after midnight or so (hey, it's not like you're moving around a lot to stay warm!). Sweats, sweater, jacket - lot's of layers to put on over time then take off.
Some years they are not needed but I recall a couple times when it seemed to hit the low 40's high 30's. That can be cold if you are just sitting around like a bump on a log waiting for the fish to bite.
Other years a flannel shirt was all that was needed to ward off the shivers.
If we get cloud cover it's much warmer - but then I doubt you'll be sticking around.

Great point, Ron. While the average October temperatures for Phoenix are 85°F for a high and 64°F for a low, the AASP isn't in the city. The site is a bit southwest of I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson. The daytime temps could easily be in the 80s (or higher). But, once the sun sets there isn't the concrete and asphalt mass to retain the heat and the mercury could dip into the 50s (or lower). I always bring a duffel with extra layers: long johns, fleece, vest, snowmobile pants, insulated boots, knit hat, gloves, etc. I just don't like having a good night of observing end because I got cold. By the way, the October records: high is 107°F (1980) and the low is 34°F (1971). Again, that's in the city.
