I've been trying to find time to process my M42 image, but it isn't going to happen for a while. So I'm just posting a raw image (i.e. NO processing except resizing and converting to JPG, no dark or flat field, just a single 8 min. exposure.)

I must say, the first night was very enjoyable being able to share views (and, shudder, that amazing Ethos) with Josh and Chris. Their scopes did so much to put the eye candy into context with the wider fields of view.
And then, when Josh wimped out for night two, Ron and Scott showed up to make the night a deep sky playground.
Also appearing was my long time (11 years now!) daytime work and night time observing partner John Anderson (I don't think he's taken the plunge into CN, although I prod him regularly). He set up on the opposite side of me from Ron.
And I got to play with my new cheapo astronomy laptop that arrived the night before the party. Although it wasn't ready for night time play (the screen is bigger than my light shield and supper suppressant privacy screen and red cellophane covers from the near-death computer it's replacing), I did fool around with it during Saturday afternoon; it ran over 5 hours on the high capacity battery, and still said 26% power remained when I shut it down at dusk. Never had to hit the original equipment battery I used as a spare. Now I have to find a 12V power converter for it; the connector end is some goofy configuration I've never seen, so my three other airline/auto converters won't fit. Ron and I did have some fun with it, trying to get it to behave with a SanDisk external drive.
Although I appreciated the chance to view old favorites, it's the people that make it so enjoyable. And Josh, Chris, Ron, Scott, and John made it worth the flat tire (oops, wife says it's fixed and I gotta put it back on the truck tonight).
Now for AAMM08, and desertstars making an appearance. We missed the canopy.

Ahh, who needs Tom? I've got a canopy but didn't think it would be of much use considering I showed up around 4:30.
Actually Tom, I missed the heck out of you.
The new chair was amazing! More like artwork than woodwork, true craftsmanship. OK Ron, you can stop gushing now I'm done slinging praise at you.

Gee, I don't know, it looks pretty crowded. Isn't there a spot with a little more elbow room?

Sure, but since a spot with more room is not on this planet, the travel costs are excessive.
