No. It's a standard 1.25" and that's a 2" on the main scope.

Hey Chuck, that's a great write-up. First time I've ever seen a method to calculate how many exposures to take. I've bookmarked this thread for future reference.

Right now I really enjoy the primitive side - and all those cables and electronic hardware distract from the joy of a simple setup (for me folks - please do not take this personal slam against computer lovers).

Think we should have a collection to get some cable tidies for dragon man, i think he needs them before he trips and knocks over his mount....lol.

Hmmm... cable management is a very important thing, especially in the dark.
One of my fellow club members was imaging recently at a site we use that is a boat ramp with a large asphalt parking lot. It's very nice from an aspect of keeping your gear clean of dirt, but that hard surface is very hard on your gear if it falls on it.
Well to make a long story short, this fellow neglected to mind where he ran his cables and pulled his laptop to the ground with the power cable, runining the display. It turned out to be better to replace the laptop entirely than to have the display fixed.
Ouch! That was an *expensive* mistake.

::Shudder:: Stories like that make me cringe. One time I watched in horror as my friend's iBook slid off of a podium.

My setup is fairly tidy. I run three cables from my house out to my patio; a power line, a serial line, and a USB line to a powered hub. At the end of the nigh it all gets wound up and put in a padded lunch box. It takes about 5 minutes to setup and about 2 minutes to put away.

Mine is just power and USB - the serial comes through the USB hub.

Russ; neat idea! I'll have to see about trying that. Mine is a four-port hub and one port is always free (the others have a DSI, DSI Pro and a Phillips webcam or an LPI on them).
ribuck; 0 cables is good. It feels a bit odd when I set up for visual-only since I don't have to worry about where my feet are (or what they're about to get tangled up in).

Problem solved!
I have just spent 2 days converting a corner of my Sunroom into a Control Room. All cables from the Observatory run underground in a strong tube, all cables tied into a loom and run along the under-side of the desk, and out in the Mini Observatory there are no cables all over the floor any more. Just the 4 main cables needed and at the right length.
Thanks for the idea of a collection, but now not necessary
Note the lack of cable mess in the pic

What's even better, you cannot trip over the scope if you're nowhere around it! Love the control room!

Same thing happened to me awhile back. I had thought it was an expensive mistake until I figured out that all that happened was the LCD backlight broke. Luckily all it took was $10 for a new lamp, a couple of hours and a soldering gun and it was good as new.

Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a skyscan EQ6 Pro which I believe will track very well for about 2 mins, before needing to be autoguided.
I was wondering if it's possible to get some decent images from 100-120 second exposure lenghts, as i cant afford to buy all the extra kit required for guiding right now.
Sorry Ribuck,
I think I took this thread a tad off track. It was originally about your query re: 'Unguided Imaging', and has ended up about messy wiring!.
But I suppose the 2 subjects are connected. If an imager wishes to add guiding one day, they can now see the problems of cables!
Also, you say you can't afford all the extra kit at the moment.
You really don't need a lot of extra kit. If you have a spare refractor (a cheap achromat will do) and a 2nd Toucam, or LPI, etc, you can Guide, either by using the hand control or getting a guiding cable for Autoguiding. Or an even simpler way is use an illuminated reticle in a cheapie refractor and guide by eye at the scope.

Hey Dragon man dont worry about going of topic i now realize this is a common, plus it was great to see your control room. So where is the scope located when you're in your control room ? Do you just have it outside or it located in a dome ?

My scope is in the worlds smallest roll-off roof Observatory, about 15' from my control room.

Wow that is small, but then if it does the job and your imaging most of the time then i guess you dont need a big dome. Good idea, doesn't stand out as much and thieves wont notice it as much as a dome.

Yep, just looks like a playhouse!
That's my giant EQ for my 12" reflector is at the back of it.
