NGC4631 and NGC4656 new
      #1498538 - 03/22/07 12:27 PM

Here is another fun pair of galaxies to image, affectionately known as the whale and crowbar. This night was a good as the previous night when I took the M106 shot, minus the wind. Everything went really smooth for me and the lack of wind really helped my guiding errors. They were much more tightly grouped and I think this is why my stars look better in this image.

Exposure: 40x360 Seconds ISO 1600
Camera: Canon 350D (unmodded)
Scope: WO ZS110 @F7
Mount: Losmandy GM-8
Date: 2007-03-17

Proccessed with IRIS, PixInsight LE (DBE) and PS CS2 with Noel's Astro Tools 1.5.

Splendid shot of these two. The stars definitely look good in this image.

That is a cool shot. There are 4 galaxies clearly on view

NGC4627 (as know as the Herring) and its satellite 4631 (I guess it should be called a calf), and 4656 (also known as the hocky stick) and its satellite 4657 (making the kink - though some sources dispute that this is a satellite citing it as a distortion of the main galaxy caused by interactions with 4627 - hydrogen gas bridges between both large galaxies) - very cool!

Thanks to everyone who commented.

Tonk, thanks for the info its very interesting.

Dave, I can do it because I learned everything about this hobby from this board. About a year ago I posted a tripod shot of Orion. You all encouraged me and I just wanted to shout out a big thanks. Its been quite a learning curve(that I'm still climbing) and I really appreciate the help, encouragement and inspiration along the way.

Very nice!
I really appreciate pictures with smooth(not watered down with noise reduction) colors. Round stars are a pleasant view also. And 40x360 exposure makes me pretty sure that 1 night=1 object.
