Hello
Well another "1st" shot and what else, M42. This was taken in March at a middle Tennessee star party. Conditions and luck were not the best as we had 10-16 mph gusts. A clamp on one of the tripod legs broke and we used electrical tape to hold in place and the ground was a gravel asphalt mix. I was only able to get four shots before it went behind the trees.
First time with the new "Ultima" as I did a PEC board/motor mod on the mount thanks in part to Everlasting and Tangent. Shot with a unmodded Canon 350, no filter, 4x3.5min. thru a Orion 80ED. Processed by DeepSkyStacker (only two darks and two flats), Elements 4.0 and InPixsight LE. This has more photoshop surgery than ZaZa Gabor has plastic.

This is a whole lot better than my first M42 shot -- it shows some pretty faint nebulosity.

Agreed! M42 is one of the more difficult objects to image but everyone just has to try. Sorry to hear about your difficulty, but you will have some valued experience for this Fall/Winter. I'd practice your core masking techniques on this one and have it wired for next time. Nice image
